removal of stitches after bypass

has anyone had stitches removed after a bypass operation? I had a bypass 4 years ago. Had keloid scarring so my go gave me steroid injection along my scar. The skin on my chest is quite thin and the wire used to rewire my sternum is now very visible. I’m worried the wires will break through my skin. Thanks

I suggest you talk to your GP about this. If your condition requires any procedure or intervention he/she will be able to advise, and/or pass you on to someone who can offer advice.

Dear somewhereintime

In answer to your question then yes I have had stitches removed after By-Pass surgery .

I also suffer from keloid scaring but have not had any injections to flatten them, I am very hairy so most of mine are hidden.

As for the staples or wire that they used, again like you I can feel them under my skin.

It is possible for you to have them removed if they are becoming a problem as they are not needed anymore , but this is something to ask your Dr about who can then refer you on.

Thank you for mentioning the steroid injections, I may look into this as my scars are very tight and lumpy

Take care

The wires will be covered in calcium from your bones now so you are likely not seeing the wires but the wires covered in that.I would imagine it would be quite awkward to remove them after four years

I had a bypass some 4 years ago. After 6 months or so I noticed that there was a visible end of a wire at the middle of the top of my chest. I enquired and was told that it was a signal wire that they expected would give me no trouble. It is still there, visible, sometimes slightly protruding, but no real problem so far. I was told that the chest clossing wires were stronger and deeper and were not visible. No change in the last 2 or 3 years.
