Hi, had double heart bypass 2 weeks ago and at least once a day I get pains in my neck and chest which ease when I walk about. I did have a partially collapsed lung whilst in hospital and wondered if this was something to do with it. Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?
I’m seeing the cardiac nurse in a couple of days so will ask her about it then.

hello, your amazing for what you’ve been through and the after math of the surgery is always the toughest, I’m on my 8th week now from having my surgery done and I’ve had a few chest pain and a few neck pains too but mine is from doing too much where yours was getting better from walking so I don’t know if it’s Similar or different. But yeah always asking for advice off the nurses is always reassuring.
HiYou will get all sorts of random pains for quite some time to come I'm afraid. There's all sorts going on with your body. Nerves and muscles repairing. 2 weeks is nothing. It took me about a year before my pains eventually subsided after my CABGx3. Of course, get the pains checked out, but it's very likely its recovery pains.
Sounds like it could be muscular to me but then I'm not medically trained. Have you managed to walk round the block yet? I did get typical angina when I did so I'm very familiar with how you feel. Please feel free to message if you want to discuss more.
Hi, yes I’m walking about, only short walks at the minute and feel absolutely fine during and after. It’s just every now and then I get pains in chest and neck which are eased when I walk about, eat something or have a cup of tea. I know everyone’s different but they don’t tell you what to expect. I thought I’d just get aches and pains from the surgery sites not pains which feel like angina. As I say I’ll mention it to cardiac nurse when she visits. Thank you for replying
It's still early days, you've had a pretty major operation and your body needs to heal. I suggest you keep on with pain relief until you are feeling much better.
I'm nearly 3 months post triple bypass surgery, and I still have some sort of pain in my chest, particularly when I wake up in the morning. I find a couple of paracetamol works for me.
A lot of people still get some sort of pain for many months after surgery, so I wouldn't worry too much.
It's great that you are getting around and walking will help speed up your recovery. I found that going to cardio rehab exercise sessions helped me tremendously with my recovery.
Hi there really common after two weeks. Things get better quickly but remember it was a serious operation and at various times as you start to use new muscles you will get these feelings.
Yes that is really common, my wife was fuming. Take it easy, build slowly and then when you hit 6 weeks you have the cardiac rehab meetings, you can get all questions answered there as they are very good in my experience.
