Since my triple bypass and atrial valve repair I’ve been plagued with gout. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problems.

Gout problems after bypass operation
Dear Steve
Me too. I had two gout flares which delayed my recovery by two weeks. My GP has left me a supply of tablets and I took them to see off the gout pain. I don’t take daily gout tablets.
I try to look at it as a positive as it took my mind off the recovery pains.
Haven’t had any further flares in the past three years.
Best wishes
Sooty
Hi Steve. Yes, I had a gout attack just after Christmas. I can only put it down to the cocktail of medication? I don’t want add to that cocktail, so I take a Cherry supplement every day and this seems to have kept it at bay for a long time. If I find that they need a bit of a boost, I get a tin of cherries from Sainsbury’s and eat half in the morning and then the rest in the evening. Seems to reduce the episode a lot quicker!
I had gout flare up from taking water tablets they reckon. It was so painful. My big to hurt so much it was horrendous. I was given some tablets, I can’t remember what they were called, since then I take allopurinol daily. Some times I feel a slight pain and some of my fingers are bent. I have to avoid certain foods. I feel your pain.
it’s a known side effect of some medication, I had it a couple of times a few years ago due to BP medication but nothing post surgery despite being on at least one drug that is known to cause it.
Hi which on are you referring too
Thanks
have you considered taking celery seed extract I had an attack from drugs that keeps it at bay
Not heard of that. I’ll give anything a go. Been taking concentrated cherry tablets
I wouldn’t be without my celery seed extract lots of people take them I tried the cherry but didn’t work for me
Please don't discard my experience as "quackery" . After several acute gout flare-ups I would try anything. I now take a daily dose of cherry concentrate, one gram of vitamin C in tablet form and drink one litre of water in addition to my other liquids. I have also cut out most foods containing purines. Believe it or not it has been so helpful. There's no harm in trying it is there?
Hi, Just a few ideas, could be diet change, are you eating more oily fish? Doing more exercise, excess strain on joints? OR not enough, weight gain. Drink lots of water, avoid ales, red wine, red meat, spicy food, chilli, curry does me in. Could be side effects from meds. Kev.
