Update on uncle

hi all you lovely people. My uncle is now 12 weeks post double bypass, valve and aneurysm repair. It’s all still a learning curve with his pacemaker and the discovery of the hernia.

He’s getting breathless and upset due to these symptoms. He’s had his post op check and no concerns, ecg regularly. The doctors are happy. But due to his learning difficulties, I think it’s worrying him and I guess I come here for reassurance. He is so special to us as a family, he has no regrets about surgery. I guess I didn’t expect the tears and post op bits. He’s walking a little but not as far as he could be.

Hello to the pair of you,

Nice to hear an update on your uncle, a few steps forward and couple back.

Hernias can be draining and the pain it can cause on movement will be adding to your uncle wanting to stay in that chair.

But that { as you already know } is bad for him and as hard as it is, you should try to get and keep him motivated { so much easier to say than do }

Glad to hear that the heart problems are settling and for what you both have been through { and yes I mean you Lydia } you are not in a bad place, given that so little time has passed.

It is great that he seems to have accepted the pacemaker as I must admit it took me quite a while to find peace with mine.

Keep an eye of that breathlessness and please don't hesitate in contacting someone if you or he is worried about it, all these things are better investigated than just left alone.

Keep taking care of each other and try to get a break yourself, you work hard with your actions and concerns for your uncle, you have to remain strong as well.

You are both in my thoughts

thank you. I always look forward to your replies as you’ve helped over the period.

Unfortunately due to his difficulties he struggles, but he’s learning emotion is good to let out. He has no regrets about the surgery and happiest I’ve seen him in a long time. When we mentioned to surgeon they said it was due to his stomach being pushed up (the hernia) causing his pain and breathlessness. I have just ordered an oxygen monitor. He’s been told he’s not allowed any X-rays for a while due to radiation.

He wants to look after me now, I’ve had a health scare with blood pressure. I’m on medication but not stabilising. Been told I can’t rush around anymore due to my genetics. I’ve also just booked my first solo holiday, so my mum will keep an eye, his little sister.

It feels forever yet realising 12 weeks isn’t that much.

Fantastic news about your holiday,

I am sure that it will help you relax and be in a good place to fight your own medical worries on your return.

Even if your problems { blood pressure } have been put down to genetics, there is plenty of things they can try for you now, unfortunately it could be a lot of hit and misses before the right procedure is reached .

As we are here for your dear uncle we are the same for you.

Take care and enjoy that break you really deserve it.

P.S I love rock, don't care what city, town, or countries name runs through it, the pink, hard and sugary one is my favourite , { shame my heart don't like it as much }

I am grateful for your kind words. I think my uncle will be after the rock as well haha.

I’ve had a wake up call last few weeks, I knew about blood pressure two years ago and medication. Family history is against me. It’s not been stabilising with medication. I am doing everything I can but mainly trying to relax.

I think we might have warned you about the tears and post op bits but as attention is naturally focused on the actual surgery what happens after tends to be shelved.

He will have breathlessness due to lack of exercise, anxiety and medication. It will take some months before they reduce depending on age and physical condition prior to surgery. Obviously if they don't get better or get worse contact your GP. Meds in particular can have an effect as what suits one person may not suit another.

thank you. We definitely overlooked the afters.

We think putting on weight hasn’t helped his breathlessness, we are building his walking up. He seems so happy but understand more and more he will be emotional. Being fearful of your life and now being fixed
