problems with foot after surgery.

Morning all hope everyone’s doing well and coping with the cold. I had my triple bypass 5 weeks ago. After returning home after approx few days week the most ( sorry still seem to be having memory problems) I experienced problems with my left foot, unable to lift up and this has affected my walking I have fallen a few times ( thankfully landed on something soft so no injuries) I was referred and saw a consultant last Tuesday who said this can happen after this type of surgery, he is arranging a nerve test and I now have a brace. I’m interested to know if anyone has experienced this? No graft was taken from that leg however they did attempt to. I’m trying not to get down because of this but feel I’m slowly regaining my strength and want to be able to walk which I’m unable to do so at present.

Hello :-)

The fact they attempted the craft can and regretfully looks like it has caused some nerve damage and I a so sorry this has happened

Hopefully in time it will get better as it is early days

I did have 2 of my crafts took from each of my legs luckily I do not fall over but in places to touch near the ankle I have no feeling

Let us know if it improves and how you get on :-) x

I have aches and numbness at the bottom of the leg where they harvested a vein for my surgery. The same applies to my arm where harvested an artery, which is numb and often painful at the wrist. It very much sounds like the attempt to harvest a vein in your leg has caused nerve damage. Have you been told why the attempt to harvest a vein failed?

The situation should improve, though in my case I do continue to have problems with pain. Still, I can't complain... I've never had any pain from the important work done inside. 😀

Hi thank you for your reply. I’ve not had an explanation as to why the attempt failed but intend to speak to the cardiac nurse.. I hope things improve for you.

I'm resigned to periodic nerve pain. It's not an issue, but it's still darn annoying when it wakes me up in the night. As my mother used to say, "worse things happen at sea!" 😁

I’ve had some pain also and numbness. The pain was mainly at night but 🤞🙏 that seems to have improved. ❤️your attitude and your mother is right worse things do happen at sea 😄

Well I was given the choice of having a bypass or not. My surgeon said he could insert some more stents (I had two inserted at the time of my heart attack), but I would probably need further intervention inside ten years, so I went for the gold star treatment. To expect to have no issues was never going to be an option. I'm just pleased to be able to do what I do and when I stand on top of a 3,000 foot mountain I give thanks to God and the team that operated on me. 😀
