I need some kind of guidence as I'm experiencing racing heart. I've had ecgs done blood test done results came bk normal ECG was normal had blood test for thyroids that was normal only thing that was found after 2nd blood test was high cholesterol on statains for it....But my main concern is my heart. No matter what I'm doing my heart will suddenly increase if bloody scares me.... I'm constantly monitoring my heart rate. I know when it's elevated as I hear it in my ears n when I take my pulse at wrists it's going fast. Dr has said it's anxiety but I'm not convinced and has put on low dose of sertraline.. I not took one has side effects are increase in heart rate. Just need some advice ASAP please

Hi, I am not a doctor but so please dont take what I am saying as gospel. I have a Heart Disorder called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and have a ICD fitted so it records if my heart goes into VT. I also suffer from exactly what you are saying with your heart racing which is extremely scary beyond belief. These are panic attacks and can come on at any time, as I said these are very scary and I try to control these with breathing techniques that can be picked up on Google and trying to understand why my panic attacks occur. One of the main pieces of advice I will give is that stop trying to monitor your heart rate as this was and sometimes I still do and it does not help just intensify the issue. So breathing exercises daily and remaining listening to relaxation music.

Hope this helps

Hi, your symptoms sound very much like mine. My heart races for no reason, mine is in rhythm so docs no longer interested. They too put me on Sertraline, (also said I was anxious....I am not) I found it ok but it did nothing for my heart rate, so stopped taking it after a few months as I did not want to be on it if I didn't have too. I never had any side effects from it, coming off it was easy. Give it a go and if it doesn't work, I would stop taking it.

Beta blockers never worked for me, so I'm not on anything. Just learning to live with it.
