EECP Therapy (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation)
Is not recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence NICE, as a treatment for obstructive or non obstructive coronary artery disease.
There are no large long term trials to suggest that it is is affective in the long term.
I don't believe it is offered by any NHS trust as present. It was offered as possible treatment for refractory angina also microvascular dysfunction in the past.
There are a few private providers but it's espensive over 10,000 pounds.
It involves daily treatments over 7 weeks. It can be very tiring and usually requires repeated treatments.
It is offered in some European countries and the US.
A heart healthy lifestyle and taking statins are the most affective, evidence based treatments to help prevent coronary artery disease.
thanks milkfairy, yes it’s not offered by nhs and expensive. It’s getting some good recognition and when there are enough results hopefully will be on nhs list .
I doubt that EECP will be introduced into the NHS.
At present there is poor evidence to say that EECP is clinically or cost effective.
Most people require repeated treatments.
Obstructive coronary artery disease can be successfully treated in other evidence based ways.
Hospitals are making big business out of bypass. I underwent bypass which ruined my life. Doctors suggest bypass unnecessarily, hence one should go for multiple opinions before deciding on bypass
