Mitral valve prolapse, regurgitation, annular disjunction & fibrosis

Hi, I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse 3years ago after being admitted to hospital with an arythmia and heart failure (dilated cardiomyopathy) with an EF of 30%. With medication, my EF improved to normal (58%).A subsequent MRI showed a small scar in the inferior lateral wall. At the time, they thought this was myocarditis but with further investigation, it seems likely related to mitral valve prolapse syndrome.I’m on high dose of bisoprolol (10mg) and ramipril (10mg) as well as epelernone and blood thinner for arythmia. I have recently been advised to have an implantable loop recorder, as I have moderate regurgitation with bi-leaflet prolapse, thickened redundant leaflets, severely dilated left atria, mitral annular disjunction, fibrosis. So, a lot of risk factors.I am trying to get a better understanding of this condition, and from what I understand, mitral annular disjunction occurs in over half of those with mitral valve prolapse. Has anyone else been diagnosed with mitral annular disjunction, and have an ILR or ICD for this ? Has anyone else developed heart failure, as a result of mitral valve prolapse syndrome?

Thanks

my EF was a little low but I could not tolerate Bisoprolol or Metroprolol. Broke out in body rash. Some heart medications make me feel like death!! Why do you need to feel worse? Sad.

Hi, I’m on high dose of bisoprolol (10mg), as well as Ramipril (10mg), Epelernone (25mg) and Rivaroxaban (20mg). I’ve not had an issue with rashes, but tiredness and fatigue, yes ! This could be due to the meds (more specifically the beta blocker), my heart condition, depression, poor sleep (I wake up a lot), or a combination of things.

It is frustrating

You didn't say what your normal blood pressure is. Did you have high blood pressure? Beta blockers like bisoprolol, especially in high doses of 10 mg, lower blood pressure. I have a mild prolapse of the mitral valve. My mitral regurgitation is 1+ 2. The cardiologists say it's nothing. It's mild and that a lot of people have it. Not to worry .However, I feel my heart every day and I have problems. I drink Bisoprolol 2.5 mg and Flecainide 50 mg × 2. I also drank other antiarrhythmic drugs such as Propafen. Nothing particularly helps me. My problem is heart skips (SVES and VES). Heart it skips for a moment, it shakes in my chest. At that moment, I have shortness of breath and lose my breath. Terrible feeling. It lasts for 2 seconds and everything is fine later. I have it several times every day. I'm already more crazy because of it. They say it's not from mitral valve disease valve. However, what is it from then? I did a 24-hour holter (ecg), ultrasound of the heart, ergometry (walking on a bicycle) and they didn't find anything special except for these occasional skips. But because of that, I can't function normally. Maybe I need a higher dose bisoprolol like you. Maybe it would be better.

My blood pressure is 110/70. It was previously 135/95 (weekly average). The doctors are still investigating the fatigue and I’m due some more blood tests this month. My cardiologist has also suggested switching to Nebivolol for the beta blocker. I’m on a high dose of beta blocker due to developing heart failure (EF 30%) 3 1/2 years ago. At the time, the cause was suggested to be myocarditis but as time has gone by, it would seem to be related to mitral valve prolapse (which I never knew I had). As I understand it, the beta blocker helps reduce the strain on the heart and also reduces palpitations and ectopics.

How do you feel now? Are you better? How do you tolerate Nebivolol? Why did they discontinue your Bisoprolol?

Hi, ive not switched to Nebivolol yet, as they want to check if there are any other causes of my tiredness (Iron levels, Thyroid, B12, Vitamin D). It could also be simply due to the leaky mitral valve (I have moderate regurgitation, but I suspect it’s a combination of things.

Hey, I don't think your symptoms are from mitral valve prolapse, like fatigue, etc. It's a side effect of the medication. I don't know exactly what you feel about the other symptoms? I also have mild mitral valve regurgitation. My heartbeat and shortness of breath are not due to prolapse, the doctors told me, because it is mild regurgitation. I understand you have mild regurgitation. So your prolapse is very minor and you shouldn't have any consequences. It may be due to myocarditis if you have had it. You wrote that you had myocarditis earlier. Did you feel the discomfort when you had myocarditis or did the doctors assume it when they examined your heart on an ultrasound? Do you know what your pulmonary pressure is? This can be seen on an ultrasound of the heart. You may feel tired and weak due to increased pulmonary pressure.
