I wondered if the medication I am taking to control my heart conditions contribute to this mucus and runny nose. I am on Bisoprolol Fumerate 5mg and Candesartan 4mg daily.it is mentioned as possible side affects particularly for Candesartin

hi. I have the same, my nose runs and I’ve got the symptoms of post nasal drip. I’ve read that beta blockers can contribute to this, as well as other medications. There is also a condition that causes a spur to grow in the top of your nose which can also cause excess mucus. It’s common and occurs as we get older but it’s not particularly serious although it’s an inconvenience. I’m waiting for an appointment with ENT about this so hopefully I’ll get some answers. Perhaps make an appointment with your GP and see what they suggest. It’s always better to get these things checked by a professional. Good luck.

Bisoprolol gets blamed for a lot of things, but we might be worse off without it! It's a case of which is worse.

yes, the medications have a variety of beneficial effects so the minor side effects are mostly just irritations. I get a runny nose but it is the time of year and my wife also gets them but is on no medication. By all means ask your GP if you should be concerned

bisprolol does it.

My main complaint are runny eyes. I hate it when out and about as they water constantly. I blame carvedilol beta blockers

Reading your reply i've jist realised that might explain my eyes! Ever since my heart attack my eyes run like mad when im out and i never thought that it might be the coxktail of meds!

Yes, I know its them as had to reduce dose to nothing and went away. Resumed and returned. Bit emabarassing when in public as appears one is crying. More of a hindrance than it seems and effects vision when watering. My nostrils also used to get sore and infected but that was due to dapagfloxin which is now stopped temporary and immediately healed after a year of suffering. As others say the benefits often outweigh, although in my case drug therapy partially failed and that is why I am having a CRT in three weeks time. They were right to try the drugs first though

Yes I take bisoprolol 5mg and have a runny nose every day. Almost always a thin watery fluid. Can be anytime during the day but particularly at mealtimes. It can also be triggered by posture and start when I bend over. It’s annoying but I’ve just learned to live with it. Also cold hands and feet much of the time.

I only take 1.25mgs, and I get it, but put it down to 10mgs Ramipril

I agree with this I thought it was ramipirl as well , I was informed that it gives you the runny nose or the cough

I went on Bisoprolol 3 years ago after my AVR and began to suffer from the ‘runny nose syndrome’ ! Hate it but it goes with the turf I’m afraid 🤷‍♀️ Sue 🙏

It’s the bisoprolol. Following an ablation I stopped taking it (1.25) a couple of weeks ago. Strangely, the runny nose was much worse for a week or so but now it’s cleared. I also suspect that bisoprolol caused hair thinning for me so it will be interesting to see if that improves now I’m off it.

I get this too! Pleased to hear I'm not alone... I also take Bisoprolol (was on 2.5mg, recently reduced to 1.25mg). I went to my GP when it was particularly bad last winter and they prescribed Beconase nasal spray, which does seem to help a bit. I think you can also purchase OTC.

Hi , my problem is runny nose and blocked up ears! ( like on an airplane) I take Bisoprolol 2.5mg and Furosemide 40mgs plus other meds. I’ve been to GP given nasal spray but no improvement. Also I’ve gained 3kg in 5 months. Help! x

yes either one can cause runny nose. But just had my Bisophrol increased and runny nose is now sprinting 😀🤔 so think that’s the one to blame for mine.

Ok, Folks ,thanks for comments ,we seem to have to have this irritant merely to stay alive!!.

Any doctors care to comment for a common solution to the side affects. Thanks

There can be many reasons for a runny nose. One person can have many reasons. Some not mentioned so far include: I find when I go to hospital my runny nose dries up, perhaps because of less allergies. Also, whenever the temperature gets over 25C all my nose and chest problems vanish.

so glad you posted this - the replies have just explained probably why I’ve thought my antihistamines aren’t working and one said hair thinning - I brush my hair and a handful comes out and it’s thinning a lot on top front! Been on bisoprolol for years but this year it’s been increased a lot due to heart symptoms escalating. Maybe an ablation due next month will allow a reduction in time and I’ll see improvement .
