Pip claim
A Personal Independence Payment is awarded according to how a health condition impacts on your life.
I live with a debilitating heart condition.
I was awarded a PIP as a result.
I suggest you get in contact with Citizens Advice for more information.
i echo what Milkfairy says - but you can also contact Benefits and Work, they have a lot of free info and a forum, but for a small subscription you can access their excellent guides on applying for various benefits - i used these successfully for my applications, renewals and appeal for a different condition benefitsandwork.co.uk/ there are also some local voluntary organisations who can advise and sometimes provide practical help in completing these lengthy forms
be prepared for a lot of writing, repetition and waiting - good luck
Hi pip is more to do with how your illness affects your mobility and your daily living than the actual illness itself. I.e how far can you walk, and the effects your illness has on your personal care. The form is long and very difficult to fill in I had help from my local councils advice works they were brilliant, I live in Scotland. I would read the guidelines on the DWP site and if you think you would qualify for it seek advice from citizens advice or the web site in the previous answer, it is a long and stressful process and I wish you luck with it if you want to ask me anything please do. Take care char
hi. The benefits and work website has a mock pip assessment proforma that you can go through. It might give you an idea of your eligibility. It’s not so much about the type of illness that you have but rather the impact of it upon your life. You need to fill it in thinking about your worst days. It’s always better to have your doctor on side too as the pip people are likely to contact them for an opinion. Good luck.
Maybe people aren’t very familiar with the search function or are not au fait with using the site at all. It never bothers me if someone repeats a question already asked as I’m under no obligation to reply.
IT depends completely on how badly affected you are and what you can't do that anyone else would be able to do "consistently and without pain". A great many people with heart problems live a perfectly normal life. I would strongly advise you to have a look at the website "Benefits and Work. Much of the information is for paid members only ( IT doesn't cost much to join) but there's still plenty there. You could also phone Citizens advice. If you do appl;y, expect to be turned down immediately. You must ask for a mandatory reconsideration, then appeal if necessary or be prepared to go to tribunal. Also give as much information as ever you can on extra sheets. My application which was for a different problem had 11 extra pages
Depends on your qualification on points 12 to be precise I got four points best of luck
i agree with Anon 2023 - i know it's depressing but you must complete it from the point of view of when you are at your worst - ticking the boxes is not enough - give detail in the extra text boxes, and if you can not do stuff regularly, repeatedly and safely you must keep saying this - you think they would get the point after the first time but you must repeat it wherever it applies
be prepared to do it a bit at a time and take breaks with treats as it is not fun to do and you will need cheering up
