PIP Telephone Consultation
Hi Bepto
I had a face to face PIP interview sometime ago.
I suggest you put the call on speaker phone so you or someone else can take notes.
Ask if you can record the assessment. You can only record the session with permission.
Did you make a copy of your original application form?
If you did read it through again.
Remember to describe how things are on your worst day.
I cannot by choice, reliably, repeatedly, safely carry out certain tasks.
I have episodes of debilitating pain so was awarded my PIP for these reasons.
I also used this company to help me fill the firm in and prepare me for the assessment.
Bare in mind about 60% of people get a PIP awarded following a mandatory review or appeal.
So if you are not awarded a PIP straight away don't give up!
Good luck!
Hello
My daughter has PIP ... following incapacity benefit for years. She has learning disability. Those forms are a nightmare.
What the PIP assessor will want to know is how your diagnosis impacts your daily life eg how far can you walk before becoming breathless, how tired do you get and how much does this impact you doing everyday tasks and so on. Do you need help to wash, dress, move about, get upstairs, walk to the shops, carry heavy shopping and so on. Personal Independence Payment is awarded to help you to manage daily life independently - but you have to qualify in order to be awarded the benefit.
They award benefit in two ways - for care in going about your daily life (including overnight) and how your condition impacts your mobility.
Milkfairy is quite right to suggest you have someone else with you to take notes, you consult the original form you filled in and you think of your worst day, not your best.
Many PIP applications are turned down but most get through on appeal.
Its a bit daunting but let us know how you get on.
Frances
Update: I have been awarded PIP but only the mobility part at the standard rate having scored 8 points (stand & walk for 20 meters but not more than 50 meters.
I scored 6 points for the daily living element so didnt get that, missed by 2 points.
Thing is I get breathless walking accross the room or going to the loo. I know I can appeal but is this risky, can they take away the already awarded points?
Not sure what to do now.
Can you, like Milkfairy says, appeal the decision? Maybe have a look at the website.
I was assessed for employment and support allowance in the days when you could actually see someone. The lady stopped the assesment, half way, because I was exhausted and couldn't talk. Despite that I'm in the group who will one day, maybe, with fair wind and miracle, go back to work, and i have been for 10 years now.
My "work coach", who is lovely, put me in her red group which is code for "you will never work and I cant help you at all" she calls me every 6months and spends the whole time apologising for reminding me how hopeless my situation is. She always finishes with "if I can do anything" I asked her this time what she could do? "Oh, Ummmm......CV, Numeracy, literacy courses"? I have 2 degrees
I'm afraid it's a numbers and target game, just like most jobs. Don't give up.
Take care
My advice is to tell them how you feel based on your worst day. Never tell them about good days.
Hi Bepto
I am sorry to hear that you are like so many people not happy with your PIP award.
You can first ask for a mandatory review of your case.
Ask for some help.
I suggest contacting Citizens Advice, Age Concern or the website link I sent you.
