Hi, I have survived 2 'out of hospital' cardiac arrests. I had a triple heart bypass after the first in 2012 and an ICD fitted in 2019 after the second.

10 days ago, I started feeling very light-headed. I have had no change of meds (either dosage or type) . I take Ramipril, Amiodarone, Asprin, Bisoprolol, Ezetimibe daily.

My gp took me off Ramipril as a temporary measure last Wednesday, but nothing has improved.

I'm just wondering if this is a long-term effect of the cardiac events rather than the meds (I'm pretty nervous of stopping any of my heart meds😕) and wondered if anyone else has experienced any similar long-term effects.

I'm not expecting an online diagnosis via this forum!! - just wanted to share my apprehension and see if anyone has experienced similar.

Despite my cardiac events, I have kept active and have walked Camino Frances (500 miles) in 2016, and Camino Portugues (150 miles) in May this year. I also still work full-time.

Thanks for reading

Frank

I am in recovery from a Cardiac Arrest in 2020, and like most, take a coctail of meds including Ramipril and Bisoprolol amongst others. Right from starting the meds I've had dizziness any time I get up from sitting, or exert myself a little too much.

I'm told this is due to the damage I sustained in my left ventricle, compounded by the meds to protect my heart, meaning the blood doesn't get to the brain as efficiently, hence the dizziness.

I now stand up, pause a moment to allow the blood flow to catch up and then move. In physical exercise terms, I have to take regular rests of a couple of seconds to again allow the body to catch up.

Not sure absolutely all heart conditions make this happen, but it seems normal in Cardiac Arrest cases due to the damage done to the heart. Although I'm no expert just recovering and sharing my own experience and hearsay.

Really impressed by your walking, I hope to emulate your journey, although I'm only up to 5km so far.............

Take care, wish you well for the future.

Long term use of meds can have side effects. I was experiencing all sorts of issues after taking the normal coctail of meds they prescribe after a heart attack.

I went to a cardiologist after a year and he took me off bisoprolol changed lansoprazole to a different stomach protector and took me off bisoprolol. I felt a lot better.

hi, thanks for the response. My heart rate with Bisoprolol is just over 50 (athelete??😆). Taking me off Ramipril didn't help with light-headedness. So they have reintroduced that and taken me off Bisoprolol to see if that helps. Only second day without it so not sure if that will fix anything ...

Hello Guitarman.

Amiodarone 200 mg. All I can tell you is that its an amazing drug, though it CAN have severe side effects it has kept me out of the hospital since starting it about six eight months ago. My Afib was out of control could not lay flat in the bed. I have had some eye problems and I believe it may be associated to the Amio. So I started taking half a tablet once a day instead of the 200mg and it seems to be fine. I only have one kidney so thats a concern I just had thyroid checked and haven't got the results yet. But overall The metoprolol and the Amio seem to work just fine together. The massive heart attack was scary now years later the Afib has my heart rate 180 bpm but im glad they put me on the Amioderone I had a cardioversion about six months ago and all is well. Good luck with your meds. I think my next step will be ablation. I dont wanna stay on the Amio. to long. It can turn your face and hands blue . Green Not to mention thyroid problems. Please dont let this scare you the medicine WORKS.
