Hi all, I'm new to the group and recently diagnosed with Mitral Regurgitation and Mitral Valve Prolapse.
I've got a big holiday booked next year to go Mountain Gorilla trekking and desperately need to find a new insurance policy, as the policy I currently have wont cover me.
Could anyone please recommend anyone that isn't going to cost me more that the holiday!
Thanks in advance!

why not ask the organisation you have booked your holiday with?It sounds quite high risk. How will you get to a hospital if something happens while you are on the trip?
The insurance i already have is with the holiday company i booked it with. There are hospitals local to were we are going so I'm not concerned on that front, but thank you for your concern
I've not had to use travel insurance yet but will soon... there have been a lot of posts regarding this - if you use the search function it'll come up with posts where folk have replied with some insurance options.
HiYou need to contact your insurance company and declare it. They take you through a series of questions and then you get a risk level. Post surgery (OHS Mitral valve repair) they reviewed it and there was no issue with cover at all.
As long as they know it was OK but I only did it post op so once you declare it they will tell you. I'm with my bank.
Hi try insurance with.com I have used them pre and post transplant although only for sedate beach holidays in Spain, that sounds an amazing one you have booked, I hope you get insured and have a fab time, char
Ah yes, Travel Insurance....the perennial issue. At my previous hospital (Wythenshawe, south Manchester) we had a Defibillator Support Group which met quarterly; Fabrice Mwamba paid us a visit `cos our Medics had helped pitch-side.Our Group had a list of companies prepared to offer holiday cover. NO, it wasn`t cheap, but it was fair.
After my cardiac arrest (2011) I was given an ICD and `lo-and-behold` when I reapplied for my m/c and car insurance, there was NO premium.
I believe every Cardiac centre should have such a facility for all types of cover.
Hi. I’ve got multiple health conditions and have had fairly recent heart surgeries and a stroke. All Clear covered me for world wide travel excluding Thailand and the US. It cost me £900 for a years cover which is expensive but comparable to other companies. I’m going on safari in South Africa (self organised) and doing a fair bit of travel around the country. I think it would have been £700 for one trip so it seemed worth it to go for a years cover. It is expensive but I wouldn’t travel without adequate insurance. Enjoy your holiday.
