Hi all

Since May quad CBAG 7 weeks ago I have a couple of things that I thought would go away and haven’t the first is I’m getting a lot more phlegm I don’t think this is down to my heart I think it’s more likely to be the fact I don’t swallow very well and I was tube for around 10 hours.

The second one which I think could be my heart is I’m still coughing no where near as much and certainly not as painful, that was bad all the CABG people on here will know exactly what I mean. I’m still coughing around 10 times a day but it’s a really strange sort of clear your chest then wheezing? My wife says I sound like Muttley of the Wacky Races, oxygen levels are fine and the wheeze stops as soon as the cough ends, they did manage to give me a pneumothorax ( punctured left lung) during the surgery but it soon repaired. I feel short of breath if I walk about 3/4 of a mile but again my oxygen levels are fine.

I saw my surgeon last week who said the chest X-ray was great and when I said about the cough he just went yes and didn’t say anything else.

Was anyone else like this at this point and does it improve?

Thanks all.

Hi Jako. I have had hay fever since the age of 11 and a number of allergies which continue to develop in old age for which I take Fexofenadine daily. Since my heart attack three years ago I have developed asthma, which got worse when I had the dreaded virus that were not allowed to mention on this site. I now have two inhalers, a steroid nasal spray and eye drops in addition. If I still get a phlegm build up I take a tsp of Covonia Catarrh remedy and suck Jakemans lemon lozenges. These help clear it along with hot water and lemon. These remedies relieve the symptoms and may help you. However I know what causes my cough after tests and changing heart meds to suit. Maybe some of your meds are the cause. Take care

Hi. I’ve got a cough and wheezing that started before my first surgery. My husband said I sounded like the predator out of the alien films! I’d rather be compared to mutely than the predator!! I also had like an orange phlegm that I coughed up daily. The cardiologist and respiratory consultants both said it wasn’t heart or lung related and now I’ve been referred to ENT. One of the other people on this forum had the same and has gone to see a specialist privately who confirmed it was ENT related. Obviously it might not be the same in your case but I though I would mention it just incase. Good luck.
