Ross procedure - left shoulder pain and sore neck muscles

Hi all,

I had the Ross procedure on 8th June 2022 (my 3rd valve replacement surgery). Due to the complexity of the op, it took approx. 10 hours to complete.

Naturally my neck muscles.. all of them and so fricken tight! And my left shoulder often feels very achey 😣

Does anyone think when I’m well enough a massage therapist will me out ? I understand not being able to see one yet but maybe in a few weeks?

Thank you ❤️

Hi. Im not sure about the rules after your valve replacement but i know after i had heart attack and stent,i wasnt allowed massage for 6months. Would be best to check with your rehab nurse or consultant. Good luck x

Hi, I had problems with my shoulders after OHS. It wasn't too bad but never got better as other things improved so ended up at physio which sorted them out. This was 18 months after surgery. It took about 4 or 5 months before I could empty a can of coke by tipping my head back, it was too sore.

Take care.

Andy

After my heart surgery I had arm pain in my right arm for about two months. Might have been due to me picking up a boxed exercise bike when my wife was moaning about me having asked our 30+ year old son to carry it upstairs so that I could build it.

Hi HeartFighter. As you seem to be the only one who has had a Ross on this forum, and it is fairly likely I will have a Ross on Tuesday unless the surgeon thinks it is not possible when he gets 'up close and personal' and places a mechanical valve, can you tell me how you are feeling now? I am a 26year old guy. The Ross is not the norm but I would really prefer to not have to deal with anticoagulants and all the risks with the mechanical valve for 65 years. Thanks
