Attendance allowance : Put in for... - British Heart Fou...
Attendance allowance
I think the lower rate is paid for those of us that can cope and the higher rate if we need overnight help.
The review is to check whether we still need the help.
For my application there was no mention of terminal illness. It is a very useful addition to my state retirement pension.
Lower rate if you need help during the day, higher rate if you also need help during the night. You don't get it because you have 6 months to live. That is a different issue. If someone has 6 months to live they will definitely get the allowance. If you have longer to live you may or may not get it. If they say no you can then appeal. I too have applied and am waiting for a decision
Dear boredom
Your Cardiologist/ Gp/ Care team would have informed you, well before anyone else, about your prognosis { extremely hard for anyone to be diagnosed with only having 6 months to live } you would be well under palliative care, certainly before any benefit office got hold of that information,
who, if not you would have given it to them?
I can totally understand your concerns and shock at thinking about your mortality, but your anxiety is kicking in making the facts distorted.
please contact your GP or even better your heart team that can sit down with you and go through your illness and all that is involved with it.
Please take someone with you that can help you understand just what they are saying { its so easy to miss things when you suffer so with anxiety }
Take care you are in my thoughts
Hi Boredom I obviously cannot comment on your own health condition but can tell you about my friend. She was diagnosed with womb cancer. On the advice of her cancer nurse she applied for Attendance allowance and was given the high rate with no review date. This was about 18 years ago she has since had breast cancer with a mastectomy. She is now over 80 and still receiving her attendance allowance .
It is my understanding that if you are given a terminal diagnosis that Attendance allowance or PIP is awarded immediately with no waiting at all for decisions or assessments.
Hope all the replies have reassured you.
Oh thanks for all ur help its eased my mind a little have to see respiratory nurse on monday same 1 does cardio will ask her then to explain
My mother received Attendance Allowance for many years, hope that eases your concerns.
Not at all to do with how long you have. For anyone diagnosed with a terminal illness they simply do the assessment quicker. I think you misread it.
Re-read the information. If you only have 6months to live you will be paid out quickly and without waiting for the six months qualifying time.Attendance allowance is payable to anyone who needs support at home, who has needed that help for 6months and will continue to need it for the foreseeable future and beyond.
Stop worrying!
