You should also try your local AgeUK.

I had no problems at all getting attendance allowance for my self and my husband. It's not means tested and it's available for anyone over 65 who has serious permanent health issues to help them get help they need. It pays for my Gardner and my home carer. I also use it to pay for reflexology that helps me with my heart condition. The form is a bit daunting but persevere.

Don't see why you can't try. If they refuse, appeal it. If that fails, try again and it would go to a Tribunal. Worth getting help from Citizen's Advice though as these Forms are very complicated and sometimes try to catch you out! Plus Benefits are changing so much, it is impossible to keep up with it all.

My husband received it before he died,I was his only carer. Now I get it, have hf & live by myself, use it for gardener & homehelp as no energy. Form a bit daunting, about 28 pages but persevere. Got it for husband after 1st attempt but took 2 applications for me.

Citizens Advice is the way to go! They will do it all for you, and have been fantastic for my wife and I! The lady who took on our case at our local Citizens Advice Centre was French and absolutely charming and brilliant at her job! Go for it and I wish you all the very best.

I regularly complete AA forms as I manage a day centre for older and vulnerable adults, many living with dementia and also used to work as a volunteer for Age UK. The form is a nightmare, and requires a great deal of repeating yourself. What you have to remember is the person reading the form is stuck in an ivory tower in Blackpool and doesn't know your individual circumstances. It's important that you complete the form tackling each question with your worst days as examples, not your best or even an average. Many people who claim and get rejected do not emphasise enough their worst days. I would strongly suggest you ask for help from Age UK. They, like me, are very good at knowing the best way to word these forms.

Have a look at the website "Benefits and Work" for advice on filling in he forms. Never just answer yes or no. Give details. If it asks if you can go upstairs, say maybe yes but someone has to stand behind me and lift each leg into the next step then push me up. I can't do it on my own. That's just an example of the detail you need. If you get turned down- appeal, don't give up.. CAB can give advice but if they put the claim in you only get it from the date DWP receive it. If you do it yourself it gets backdate to teh date you put on the form. Never say yes you can do something if someone has to help you. Say no, not on my own. They look for any excuse to refuse claims so give as much explanation as you can. Don't worry if you have to add extra sheets of pper to do that.

Well mine was backdated with no problem using CAB! Our French Lady as mentioned before, never ever gave up, and she never allowed the powers that be fob her off!!

But I suppose not all CAB officers are the same?

You must claim. CAB or Age UK should be able to help with form. It’s a much under claimed benefit.
