Wrist pain after angiogram

Hey all, for anyone who has had an angiogram through the wrist, can I ask how long your wrist hurt/ached for? I had an angiogram 2 weeks ago this Wednesday and it was sore with a bruise for the first few days but the bruise has disappeared but my wrist can still be quite sore and achy even now. Just holding my phone in ny right hand makes it ache and hurt. Don't know whether I should speak to the unit who did the procedure or if this is completely normal and don't want to waste their time if it is.

Hi I’ve had exactly this plus swelling on the top of my wrist. I’m 4 weeks post procedure. My GP had to sign me off for 2 weeks due to the pain/swelling, as my right wrist and I’m right handed and rely on my hands to work.So what worked for me was resting that hand/wrist as fully as possible for a couple of weeks. Pain relief and ice packs . I’m back at work now and although after a 12 hr shift it starts to ache again it’s certainly better than it was. I also bought a wrist support to wear,.

I think when they go on through the wrist it can aggravate certain nerves and cause internal bleeding and bruising, so long as your swelling isn’t hot/red looking then you should be ok. Sometimes haemotomas can form and may need further assessment from the surgical team. See your GP and just make sure there’s no infection there to be on the safe side.

Hope the pain subsides soon. I found it deeply uncomfortable tbh to the point I couldn’t even drive for a couple of weeks.

I experienced a bleed due to pressure on wrist pad being released too quickly but apart from that I found the whole procedure painless and no after effects. I wonder if it is perhaps down to the person who does the initial insertion.... bit like staff doing bloods....sometimes it bruises and is sore whereas someone else does it and no marks or pain. I hope your discomfort doesn't last long

Hi, I had an angiogram a couple of months ago. My arm became really painful during the procedure and afterwards the consultant said I’d had an arterial spasm which can happen sometimes. My wrist and arm were fine for two days but then became quite painful on movement. This lasted 2 weeks and I ended up phoning the cardiac unit. I was told it was unusual for the pain to last this long and if it continued for another few days to get back in touch, but it literally disappeared overnight! So if you get to Weds and it’s no better, contact your cardiac unit.

The both I had left me very sore in a localised area, the wrist, I found putting a cold compress on it help the ache that stayed with me for about 6 weeks.

The nurse dismissed it as “you have had a procedure involving something being shoved into your body, what did you expect?” She is a diamond but tactfulness is not her middle name.

As long as your bruising is under control, then hopefully the aches will soon go, but keep an eye on it and don’t worry about contacting anyone, if it eases your worries then just do it. { you wont be the first or last to ask the question }

Hey Ally - I'm sorry - poor you. That doesn't sound nice. I had 2 stents fitted through my wrist in December and didn't have any wrist payment - rather achey arm where I think the vein was bruised but that only lasted a day or two. Not much help to say I didn't get wrist pain .... but I'm not sure it's normal and I don't remember it being something I was told to watch out for.

Hi Ally2212.. I had pain in my arm for a good 3/4 weeks after my procedure... it's not nice is it. I had my angiogram as an in patient and had a scan to check for what they call a 'false aneurism ' i think... nothing serious but is a bit of blood stuck near the incision site. Normally with a lump visible... i think it's always worth checking with a dr if you're worried or call one of the nurses at bhf. X
