Sore upper arm after angiogram?

Hi all, if your angiogram entry site was your wrist, for how long was your arm sore?

I’m four days post angiogram and whilst bruise on wrist is beginning to look a little better, my arm still feels tender along the inside, more upper arm.

Did any of you experience this post angiogram?

Huge thanks to you all for your continued support, it’s truly appreciated, Sal 🥰

Yes, mine took about that long, where I’d pain in the arm. when they had a little trouble feeding the ‘wire’ through.

Cheers for your reply. I wasn’t aware of any difficulties on the day feeding anything through my arm. I remember the sensation of friction inside my arm during the procedure but it wasn’t painful.

The pain on the inside of my upper arm only really kicked in yesterday evening. Still achey today but it feels on the inside of my upper arm deep inside. Hoping it’ll pass soon. I can’t see any redness on the outside so not sure if it’s just something that happens as a result of the angiogram.

Had my angiogram last Tuesday through my wrist ,where as normally they use my femeral due to me having narrow arteries in my arm, i did suffer quite a bit of discomfort in my during the procedure until they got into my chest.A few days later my arm became tender and bruising became visible from my wrist to my bicep (you could follow where they went 😂)

It’s settling down now and returning to normal

I think they’ve probably had a ‘tight spot’ on your arm resulting in the same 👍

Yes I think your right. I’ve weirdly had no discomfort at the wrist where I’m bruised. My achey pain feels deep inside my upper arm. It’s a manageable ache but still there this morning. So I’m day five post angiogram and naturally hoping it settles soon. The catheter may have done a little damage that’s unseen but wondered if it’s typical of the procedure.I never know what is normal having not had this procedure before or whether I should mention it to someone, but feel unsure as to who I would notify.

Huge thanks James for taking the time to reply, Sal.

Hi, sorry to hear this. My wrist was bruised but it didn't actually hurt. I am still suffering numbness in my left hand following the canula. Have you tried arnica cream, helps with bruising.

Hi, huge thanks for responding. I have had no problems near my wrist where my skin is visibly bruised. My pain feels deep inside my upper arm kind of underneath my arm. There’s no visible issues on the outside of my upper arm. Skin looks good there so not sure cream would help.

Hoping it settles soon 🥰

Hi there. I had an angiogram done in December 2020. I had no idea about the procedure but the only pain I had on the day were where they clamped your arm veins. Then the bruising started about a day later and a rash a week or two later, about an inch above my wrist and about 5inches up my arm. I got arnica cream for the bruising which eventually went away. For the rash I had to use steroid cream but even up to now, I still get a slight pain to the left of my inner wrist and I’m noticing pain and coldness in my right hand. Possibly like others have said there is some bruising internally. It’s quite an invasive procedure and our arm veins aren’t made to be prodded and poked. Give yourself some time to rest and heal and if after a couple of weeks it’s still a problem, call your cardiology team. Where did you have your procedure done?

Hi SimplySal. When I had my angiogram I also had it inserted in my wrist. My arm was sore and bruised for about 1.5-2 weeks. The bruise on my wrist was rather large and covered about half of my forearm (consequence of procedure and being on blood thinners?). After about 2 weeks though it was pretty much faded and gone.

I had it one week ago. The firts night had pain but did go down after midnight. The next day was light. After 3 days I started to have a strong pain in the upper arm deeper inside and continues. I am taking paracetamol to calm down the pain. I am worried. In fact I did tire the arm in the last three days. If I rest pain disappear.
