I have COPD and Cor Pulmonale. When I was diagnosed 12 years ago I was told to expect to lose weight but since my last exacerbation (beginning of May 2022, outcome was me on 16 hours of oxygen a day) I seem to be losing weight every week. Is this usual? or should I be consulting my GP to look for further health problems? The hospital didn't flag any warning signs, but maybe they weren't looking for anything else.

Continuing weight loss
Hi GothNerd,
I don't have any experience of copd, but the fact that you've been concerned enough to raise the question here indicates that you probably should consult your GP.
There is also a lung conditions forum that might be of help:
Any weight loss should be mentioned to your GP . Its not necessarily a sign that something sinister is going on and it will put your mind at rest.I am on a cocktail of drugs for heart ❤ failure and COPD and my weight has plummeted to 44 kilos in the past 18 months. Ì have had all sorts of tests and they have no answers as to why.
I can eat what I want, when I want so I'm not too bothered now.
Thanks for the reply. I think I'd come to that conclusion too, I shall attempt to get an appointment as soon as possible. I'm eating well but still losing a little each week while doing practically nothing. The dietician said Cor Pulmonale would mean I'd lose weight as my heart works harder and burns up the calories but I'm now 5kg away from unhealthy low weight.
I only weigh 32.6 kg. I can't put weight on and am told my weight loss is because I am having to work harder because of COPD/Emphysema. I can't get through th my doctor how this is making me feel. All they say is eat more
I empathise, I can't physically eat any more than I am. Have added cream to everything possible, am eating 3 meals a day (main meal at noon as too tired by 4pm to manage a big meal) have lost another quarter of a lb this week and have managed to do practically nothing, in case my usual activities were making me lose weight. I will try getting an appt with a Dr in the morning.
