Hi, my 14yr old son was diagnosed with WPW 7 yrs ago. My 17 yr old daughter was also recently diagnosed. My son has had 2 EP studies and 2 ablations. He had multiple pathways but still has one they can’t safely ablate. My daughter is waiting on an EP study and perhaps ablation at the same time. It’s apparently very rare for siblings to both have WPW. There hearts are structurally normal. The drs are going to look into some kind of genetic form of WPW.
I joined this community as I feel sick with worry. I hoped there are some other parents who could share there advice on how to cope with the worry. My fear is what if they develop a life threatening arrhythmia and I lose them. I know it’s also very rare for this to happen but we’ve been unlucky enough for 2 of our children to have WPW…

So sorry to hear that. As a mum I know you would much rather have the condition yourself than see your children suffer. I’m afraid I can’t help much but heartfelt sympathy for what you are coping with.
Having had 2 ablations for Atrial Fibrillation I can tell you that the ablation procedure itself is straightforward and I hope the doctors will give you a full explanation.
I don’t know or have heard of anyone in a similar situation but wanted to respond to you as you reach out for help. May I also suggest, if you haven’t already, contact the Arrythmia Alliance and look and post on their forum.
i was diagnosed with WPW last year in May and got a successful ablation done in April 2021. the ablation was actually the least of my worries. recovery took a bit of time to deal with, especially mentally. i’ve been to tons of different doctors. i now have IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) which i take a low dose beta blocker for, 25mg. i’m sending you prayers and strength, i know its not easy to not worry, but take it from someone who has personally gone through it (i’m now 31) your children will be okay. and there are many treatments for a fast heart rate. sending hugs your way. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
