Irregular heart beat indicator

Hello just got my omron wrist blood pressure monitor (for convenience as have a normal arm cuff / monitor too) and this time I read the instructions! There appears to be an indicator for irregular heart beat - defined as rhythm is 25% less or 25% more than the average rhythm detected two or more times during a measurement. It came on twice today, haven’t worked out a pattern yet. I understand these things can be hard to detect as can happen sporadically?

I’m awaiting For results of 7 day monitor, 2 day showed only “occasional supra ventricular ectopic and events correlated with sinus rhythm / sinus tachycardia” which they stated was very reassuring. Though I know what I feel with thumping heart sound, and in night racing heart and strange tingly / vibrating feeling in left side. Didn’t get a wink last night felt like my heart was shouting at the top of its lungs!!!! But sometimes I think it’s just the jolt of waking up.

Has anyone have a device that Indicates this and how accurate do you find it? Welcome any thoughts.

My replacement Omron arm BP monitor displays an irregular heart rhythm aswell, which was quite disturbing when it 1st appeared as my older version didn't have it. It was more concerning as I had not long had OHS. I had a conversation with my GP about it and he arranged a 24hr monitor which came back fine. It showed ectopic heart beats occasionally but nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing to worry about was his feedback.

These ectopic heart beats are quite common in a lot of the population, some people are aware of them some are not. Triggers can be things like coffee, stress and exercise to name but a few.

Certainly the more you monitor yourself with the symbol telling you its detected an irregular heart beat the more you're gonna worry about it which then you're into the vicious circle of things.

When you're taking your BP and it shows an irregular HB, can you feel it as it happens? I can sometimes so I expect the icon to show it.

See what the 7 day monitor shows, my experience is its generally the same as the 24hr and 48hr tests. You've had a positive result from your 48hr test so to relieve some of your concerns try and focus on that point.

Get an emay ECG monitor you can purchase them off Amazon and eBayWhenever you feel that thump from your heart or just random times during the day you can take a ,30 second ECG. If there is a problem detected it tells you at the end of the reading. You can download as a PDF or an image and share with your GP or Cardiology team.

That is interesting. I didn't know that you can get that sophisticated equipment through Amazon. How much will it cost? One last thing -it is a good idea to know what a normal ECG tracing looks like- then it becomes easier to spot in case of any abnormality.

They are around £100 but on offer sometimes at 84 ish there is no subscription like Kardia to see results but you can join read my ECG for 2 days free on the app store and send unlimited results to them during your free trial. There are also lots of free apps on the app store which talk you through interpreting ecgs. Hope that helps

Hi I have just bought an Omron arm monitor. I was shocked to see irregular heart beat there one day this week. I had been checking my blood pressure numerous times during a short period of time as I wanted to compare results with my older Omron. Im not sure if this affected it or not. I did Google it and it seems that people can have a blip in their heartbeat from time to time.

Hey Hidden , the ICD in my chest records what it called VF before my Dec21 CA. They were passed off as ectopic heartbeats then I went pop. It was suggested that my heart beated from the bottom (?). Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies, I’ve still been monitoring and still getting the sign coming up. The pounding heart and shaking / vibrating sensation continues intermittently in day, and at night. Disturbed sleep, definitely happens but is a chicken and egg situation, disturbed sleep causes it or the pounding / vibrating feeling causes disturbed sleep. I’ll await the 7 day monitor result, I know the cardiologist has it but he’s not written back to me re outcome. Thanks
