Time off work after SVT ablation

Hi all, had my procedure on Monday (07/03) for my AVNRT. Aside from some extended bleeding while in the ward (complications from insertion and positioning from cables) and a worrying pop heard during ablation all seems to have gone okay.

I’m meant to go back to work on Monday, but worried it might be too soon. I also work in a busy Nursery classroom which can be quite full-on physically.

It’s currently my 3rd day post procedure, but I get short of breath moving around the kitchen and have to take stairs slowly. I have strange temperature fluctuations ie. freezing earlier even with layers of clothes, temp was 35.7 C, but now seems to be back to normal. Also the area around the puncture wound is pretty bruised and tender, which I suspect is normal, alongside feelings of heartburn, also normal I’m sure.

Any thoughts please on how long you’ve taken time off work after your ablation would be really helpful. TIA

If you don’t feel good speak to your GP and ask for an extended period of sick note. I don’t see any problem with it. You are working around little kids. Its too risky to just go back to work.

Thanks for the advice Megaladon, hadn’t even thought of speaking to my GP. Worried that I’m making too much of it, but on the other hand don’t want to rush and potentially make things worse.

Yes, Nothing is more important than your health. Go back to work only when you feel good. Btw I work in a school as well. Once you are back, you are expected to do everything as usual. Just take it easy!

It’s silly, but I feel guilty not going in, but you’re absolutely right, our health comes first! You know exactly what I mean being a fellow school employee, there will definitely be the expectation for business as usual with the same amount of speediness. Thanks for the response and support Megaladon.

No worries. Write back when you are stressed. Get tome off until you are properly fit to do the job. We are all the same. I felt guilty sending my sick note to work but I need to be healthy to do the job. Once you are very sick work won’t be able to help. Help yourself and stay home until you are 100% ready. Ken

Thanks Ken. Spoke to my Head and she also said I need to be fully well before I go back. Feel relieved to have more time to recover!Thank you for the offer for a place to offload, please also write back when you’re stressed. Sharon

I believe you need three weeks off work afterwards not just a couple of days There is what they call the blanking time while the heart is healing

Thanks Kimmy60, ended up going back after a week. It was a definite struggle though, I think a bit longer off would have been better, but heyho
