It will only be done if they think it will be beneficial. Mine was done under local anaesthetic, and took a couple of hours, the 3-lead version. It was not at all painful, but I did go for the offered sedative. I have had worse experiences at the dentists. It was a bit painful for a few of days, but nothing a couple of paracetamol couldn't deal with.

Remember you can't lift your left arm for a few days, so consider what clothes you take. I took a loose fitting shirt and wrap. I was home the following morning, after an x-ray and a session tuning the device, and showing me how to set up the remote monitor. You need to make arrangements to get home afterwards as you should not drive for a while (depends on the device).

Yes, it's worrying when it is something so new to you, but it is a very routine procedure to the medics, and they should give you plenty of advice afterwards. 18 months on, I am so glad I had it done, as I have just been informed that my severe HF has more or less disappeared.

Good luck tomorrow, I will be thinking of you.
