Side effects of medications nausea

Hello everyone, I hope your start of the week is okay. Would you mind letting me know if you have a side effect of nausea from the medications you are on, and does it reduce after a short time or does it continue. My problem with side effects from any of the meds I am on seems to be nausea or reflux. Thanks as always, Judi

Hello :-)

I wished I had the answers for you

Whereas yours affects you nausea wise mine seem to be my stomach

I am like you though trying to find the answers

Only thing I can think of is asking for a med review maybe different one's might not make you feel this way

Again I know you are sensitive to meds like I am but with these kind of meds we do have to take them so we have to somehow find the answers or hope in time we will adjust to them :-) x

Hiya, I am sure you are right we have to find alternatives or learn to adjust. Have you had the effects on your tummy since you first were on meds, from the start? X

Hello :-)

No mine has seem to have started roughly the last 6 months but I am as frustrated as you with it :-) x

I think they can build up in our stomach. Due to my diabetes my digestion is very slow so i think that has something to do with it.,x

in reply toHeyjude31

Yes I think you are right

On a post I did someone said who had a really good understanding Doctor that meds can start out suiting you but it is like a bucket dripping slowly into it till it spills and then side effects appear ( they may not have described it exactly those words) but that concept and I agree as that is how I always seem to be on meds tolerate them a while and then all of a sudden reject them :-)

Hope you manage to get it sorted :-) x

that's a good analogy and it's what happened to me.

Hello :-)

I have always believed in it but when you have taken something a while and then it reacts on you Doctors will say it cannot be whatever as you have been on it for a while and trying to get through to them you know better is not an easy task :-) x

I have found hypotension can cause both dizziness and nausea. This occurred when I was prescribed anti-anginals alongside BP medication.

Thanks for replying it can be a real challenge to manage the side effects. Judi

I found having my own BP meter very useful.

Definitely, i have one too. At least it helps me to keep an eye on how I am doing. I also have my blood sugar machine for my diabetes. 😊

I got my first BG meter in 83/83. It cost £200 having come down from £1000 a year/eighteen months earlier! I have being to get my local Trust to fund a Libre for nearly five years but with no joy. I will raise it next month when I have my first face-to-face since 2019.

I do hope you manage to get one. It can certainly make life a bit easier instead of our fingers looking like a pin cushion. How are your HBa1c levels if you don’t mind my asking? I am hoping for a face to face also for the first time in a few years.,Take care, keep in touch, Judi

Please let me know as a First time Heart attack person. What is a BP meter. And where can I purchase one.

Sorry that's the problem with abbreviations. A BP meter is simply a blood pressure meter. It is worth checking regularly to make sure that things are OK. If dizziness and nausea are causing hypotension you will get a very low reading.

I recommend the Omron M30. You ban buy one from Boots, Amazon, Argos and many other outlets. Your local independent pharmacist may stock them. In some cases it will be a little dearer but they are more likely to run through its use with you.

My body cant handle the nausea and fatigue they caused. I was tried on other drugs after flat lining in the ambulance. Maybe im an extreme case. I stopped taking anything except blood thinner and one day the arrhythmia stopped and had quite severe palpitations instead.. ive ended up having a pacemaker to keep my hr at night above 60. Works well. Will start working on fitnees improvement soon.

Meant to say also that i found sipping the pure aloveta juice relieves nausea. Apparently its liver that gets bad on these drugs.

HeyJude31,Last year I was diagnosed PAF. I had it for a long time and hadn’t known about it because I couldn’t feel it. The PAF caused DCM fluid on my lungs and severe heart failure.

I left hospital on 9 tablets to take first thing each morning.

They made me so nauseous and I actually threw up. I started to retch as I was popping a pill into my mouth.

In my mind I decided that because this was the combination of pills the docs knew would work then I needed to persevere.

Sent my husband for some fruity jelly sweets. I would chew a sweet then take a tablet then another sweet and so on.

The nauseous stopped about week 4 ish.

By about the end of week 3 I was taking 2 or 3 tablets per jelly sweet.

Took couple of months but eventually I managed to take them without being sick or retching.

My consultant told me that it can take our bodies a bit of time to adjust to the medications.

That said if you try and just don’t get on with them it may be one or more may need a tweak or brand change.

Good luck and hope you start to feel better soon 😘

Thanks ever so much for replying I appreciate it. I am spacing my medications out during the day and always try and take them after food which seems to help with the nausea and sickness. I suffered with the nausea for 4 months and ended up in A and E due to constantly being sick. My meds have been tweaked I just need to try and get the balance right. Take care and thank you again, I am glad the sweets work for you! Judi

That's really useful to me too. I'm browsing the forum just having joined following an NSTEMI and stent placement in December.

I have the same cocktail of meds many will have but its giving me extreme nausea at night and interrupting my sleep. I've been told it will settle. Didn't realise it could take several months though. Deep joy.

Thank you for the advice.

I rang my GP yesterday and she suggested I try taking my statin in the morning (hopefully to avoid night time nausea). I left it off last night but it made no difference. She said to try it for a few days.

I had a rough night last night - nausea from 2 AM and restlessness/muscle aches and a bit emotional with it all to be honest. A dry cough too when laid down. Is that a symptom/side effect?

I live alone so those nights are long and depressing. I know that it's early days but this sleeplessness and low mood isn't helping.

Has anyone tried the Sea Bands (acupressure wrist bands for nausea)?

Not what you're looking for?
