I would be very grateful if someone is on Clopidogrel and had a Knee replacement surgery. I am on Clopidogrel and going to have a knee surgery, therefore I would like to know of the impact when I stop Clopidogrel before surgery and starting again, any help and advice will be highly appreciated

On 1.9.21 I had a 2.5 hours of cardiac surgery involving upgrading my permanent pace maker called cardiac resynchronisation device therapy and a I was on clopidogrel 75 mg prior to that. I was not asked to stop it. The medication is anti platelet and is not as potent as anticoagulant like warfarin and the rest. You should feel reassured but best is to seek advice from the orthopaedic surgeon who is operating you. What is JaiMataji stand for and is it a real name?

Have you been told you will have to stop it? I was on it prior to my bypass surgery back in 2017 as a result of a stroke and I wasn't told to stop taking it.

I have also had 2 teeth extracted while taking it and no issues.

Hi JaiMataji, I had my gall bladder out in March 2020 and I was told to stop taking Clopidogrel for a week before my operation, I didn't feel any different when I stopped and same again when I restarted it, but everyone is different so you should get advice from your nursing team. I hope everything goes well for you and you have a quick recovery. Take care.

Ruth

I had a major operation in June 21 for a bowel resection, I had to stop taking it 7 days before my operation, I had anti clotting injections for I think it was about 7 days after the operation and then resumed my medication as normal.

Dear JaiMatajiI was due a TKR November 2020 but a HA the same month delayed the procedure by 12 months as per trust policy. After the HA I was given standard meds of clopidogrel, biosoprol, ramipirl and aspirin. The clopidogrel ceased November 2021 as per standard procedure, not sorry to see it finish! Once the 12 months had expired another TKR pre-op was scheduled for December 2021 and the only advice was to cease ramipiril 48 hours beforehand. You pre-op team will give you loads of advice. Surgery last Monday 24 January, back home after 24 hours and now recovering well in the comfort of home! Take advantage of all the pain relief available and a few days post-op things will get better! Talk to you med teams, they are the specialists! Very good luck.

Best to check with your medical team as advice does seem to vary even between the Medics. Whenever I have had to have a procedure I have been told to stop taking it 7 day's prior to procedure. I have never felt any impact from stopping taking it or starting again.

I am on Clopidogre, fell and fractured my hip, had hip surgery next day. All was fine, the surgeon wasn't worried, so I didn't.

Hi, I have been on Clopidogrel for 4 years, had gall bladder removed , stent in femoral artery, ablation of veins , stent removed from bile duct and on each occasion told to stop clopidogrel 24 hrs before procedure, My only side effects were serious nose bleeds for about two days afterwards. I was told Clopidogrel was the problem. Good Luck with you surgery.
