Anyone know about static electricity

Does anyone suffer with static electricity events. I did before i was diagnosed with mitral valve stenosis and all been quiet since my op. However it seems to have started again when i touch people or metal and its freaking me out. I am starting to get health anxiety but at the present time i am fed up talking to G.P's as some make me feel worse when i'm trying to stay positive. Has anyone had a Mitral valve replacement as i am wondering how long it takes to regain overall body strength even though i know we are all different but all the literature i see says, should be back to normal after a few months and so on. I am 17 months on and feel as though i moving at a snails pace. Anyway i won't go on anymore as i feel like i'm droning on and on. Hope to hear from someone.

Dear dogsbodydogsbod

I don’t think that you are droning on at all and that static electricity, although not life threatening can be annoying and disabling .

Some suffer mildly while others can get a blast even with a spark.

I am not medically trained but as far as I can see that your new valve hasn’t anything to do with it, I maybe wrong.

There is a few ways that I get around it { yes a fellow sufferer }

Changed my footwear to leather souls. [ yes I know I’m vegan , but leather is a by product of the meat industry]

Deliberately discharge myself by touching things, car door etc.

Some of the common prevention tips on the net include:

Put a safety pin in the cloth you are wearing

Use fabric softener for your clothes

Keep your skin moisturised

Keep the air around you humid and not dry

I hope that any of the above helps you in anyway.

Take care

Thanks Blue, cheered me up and will stop thinking that i'm in for something else that i can't see( generally what's going on inside of my body that's going to send me back to the A and E.) Will now focus on regaining some overall body strength that's my main goal.

I get it from time to time, zaps are quite loud and hurt, seems to have settled, I think it's weather related. I wasn't sure if it was because I'm getting older and don't pick up my feet, summer here, so barefoot most of the time, so no zaps. Take care. Moni

Hi, I've had this this as long as I can remember. I put it down to my magnetic personality! I was a teacher so it was a source of great hilarity for my students. When I went back to uni I managed to crash the entire psych. dept. computer suite. The techs were most impressed-not. I wouldn't worry about it as I am 75 and still plugging along and complaining every time the car bites me!
