IDiabetes and statins and aspirin
Do you have a specific reason for asking? I'm T2 controlled by Insulin and am on statins & aspirin with no problems.
My sister has t2, diabetes, they thought she had heart problems she had tests but couldn't find anything, but they have kept her on medication statins aspirin and gtn spray are they been cautious.
I am a lifelong Type I, and have been on Aspirin, Atorvastatin and Lisinopril (an ACE Inhibitor - besides reducing BP these help protect the kidneys in the presence of diabetes) for around 20 years. Besides reducing cholesterol statins also reduce irritation (more common with diabetes) often a precursor to plaque formation and stabilise any existing plaque.
CAD is more common amongst diabetics and these drugs form part of the NICE guidelines to reduce this.
I was pre-existing at one stage and still take a statin and mini aspirin. What's your worry?
It is common for diabetics to be prescribed aspirin and statins if their cholesterol is 5 or over. Type 1 diabetics need to be particularly cautious as some statins stop the effect of some insulins. Over 40mg of atorvostatin stopped my novorapid and lantus working and my blood sugar's went high. Once the dose was lowered everything went back to normal. There are papers about this online but NHS doctors in the UK don't seem to be aware of this yet
