Hi,been struggling with indigestion despite taking 20mg of rabeprazole twice a day, just received a text from gp saying to stop aspirin for 4wks to see if it makes a difference, if not restart it, bit shocked at that I thought aspirin was the main one.i also take 10mgs of atorvastatin at 10.30 every morning. Now that I am stopping aspirin which I took at night to take atorvastatin at night instead.

Stopping aspirin
Anyone else been told to stop aspirin due to indigestion.
It is recommended to take Atorvastatin overnight as that is when your body is making most cholesterol.
Asprin is used as a cheap and effective "blood thinner" in a very low dose. I wouldn't take asprin last thing at night on an empty stomach if that is what you were doing. I always take it with food.
I would guess that the GP advice was to see if stopping asprin fixed the tummy problems if it does s/he might consider an alternative to asprin to keep the blood thin. As always if it is unclear you should ask your GP for further advice.
I was taking aspirin at 8.30 at night after a sandwich the indigestion i was getting was in my chest and not stomach, now with stopping aspirin I will take my 10mgs of atorvastatin at night instead of 10.30 am I have a hiatus hernia that doesn't help matters.
Had the GP told you to take aspirin at night?
No,I have been reading that it's best to take at night because most heart attacks happen in the morning, I also take isosorbide mononitrate before I get up and 10mgs atorvastatin at 10.30 am but I'm going to take the statin at night now instead of aspirin, I have a hiatus hernia so got to be careful, any tips.
I'm on a high dose regime - 300mg with my low-dose beta blocker with approval to have another 600mg as needed for pain. I don't tolerate ibuprofen or paracetamol so they tried me on aspirin back in the '90s and so far so good. I have annual blood gases and other monitoring to ensure my good tolerance of the regime hasn't faded.
However. At one point a few years ago I was having some (to me) rather strong indigestion, worried me because I knew it was a symptom of aspirin issues so I talked to my medic...
After somewhat unpleasant tests (oh my word that tube down my poor throat!) it turned out the aspirin wasn't the problem, overweight and poor posture was.
I was spending too much time sitting on the sofa with my feet and legs up on a bench owing to my need to prevent leg swelling and the posture my body was taking in that position meant the extra stone was pressing on my stomach, oesophagus, and other parts pertinent to eating which in turn was causing me some indigestion. My medic was most interested to hear the indigestion was not waking me in the night (he said indigestion that woke me in the night would be a sure signal of aspirin related problems). There are other symptoms of aspirin problems - the NHS site is your best source of information on that.
I lost the extra stone (walking, more housework activity when health permitted) and lowered the height of my bench - relief! I'm more careful now to try to keep good posture sitting or standing, to chew bites completely before swallowing, keeping the weight off, and being more active physically when health permits.
Best to talk with your medic(s) - indigestion could be a sign aspirin is the culprit, the tests are yuck but important to rule out any problems, and hopefully it will turn out you simply need to lose a bit and change your posture when sitting.
Please keep us updated as you go on!
Hello Radars,I suffered with chronic heartburn taking aspirin on its own, however I can tolerate an Anadin Extra which contains 300mg of aspirin, plus 200mg Paracetamol and 45mg of caffeine. I take one in the morning.
I take 20mg of Omeprazole in the evening to protect my stomach against ulcers, which I am prone to.
I don't tak Atorvastatin because I get side effects from them.
I hope this helps. Best wishes
