Pain in rib cage

I have pain often in left side of rib cage...a bit like a stitch. Is this of any importance? To be honest it's more annoying than really painful. Thanks

I often get a stitch pain in the left breast area just left of the breastbone just where the atrium is.I've had it checked out and also had it during an ECG. Nothing untoward was found so I live with it. Chest muscle pain they said. Not the heart.

Is yours a very pinpoint, small area, almost like someone is pushing the blunt end of a pencil into your chest? Not really a pain as such probably 1 on the scale? I get this on exactly the area you have described, I am pretty sure it is exactly where a stent was inserted, as I had a very sharp pain in the same place during the procedure. It just seems to come and go.

Mine's pinpoint but quite a sharp pain about 4 on the scale. I have no stents.

Dear Foxglove { my favourite plant }

I too suffered on and off with this for years and never really got to the bottom of it.

A friend showed me a few moves that she was taught to release trapped wind when she was pregnant.

For some reason it worked on my stitch, so when it comes back I just do a few of these moves, much to the delight of my old Jack Russell.

Hope it helps

What are the exercises please?

Hello Challiefan

I have tried to post a link for you but for the life of me I don’t know how to do it !

The move is called a Cat/Cow Stretch or it’s true yoga name is Chakravakasana. You can find a good example on verywellfit.com.

I hope it helps

Hi I have practised yoga for many years and am familiar with what you suggested....just never thought it would help with stitch - will give it a go. I'm a cat person but cats like your Jack Russell love it when you practice, esp. outdoors all the cats in the area crowd in to watch. Thanks

Other than the stretch involved nor could I see how it worked, hope it does for you, I’ve been told it a pretty standard movement in yoga.

Take care

One can but try and I shall be careful It is a very basic stretch but some maintain that it's not really yoga dog stretch is, head of a cow is a yoga pose but difficult You too take care if you are practising!

Have you had a CABG or stents?

I had a pinpoint pain in my left rib cage for months, no stents fitted. I no longer get it but it has been replaced by spasms through my lower body if I lie on my left side. No one seems interested in the cause. Muscle twitch or trapped nerve has been mentioned casually. I have just learned to live with it. It may be totally unrelated to my heart failure, who knows. Good luck with getting it investigated but in the current pandemic I do not hold out much hope.

I too have had this -- pinpoint pain -- on the right side of my rib cage just below my chest muscles. It's like someone is poking my rib. I thought it might be GERD/reflux related but haven't been able to make it go away. It's really annoying and I just haven't been able to get to the bottom of it. I also have a slight burning sensation in the area.

Blimey. Me too. I thought I was alone in feeling this pain which is exactly as described above. About 4 on the scale, sometimes more. It's worse if I lean forward.

I thought it had something to do with an Electro Cardiac Ablation I had in November 2020 as it started occurring soon after, so my GP kindly arranged tests for me - X-ray, and electro and echo cardiograms. All came back negative. Thankfully, the pain seems to have nothing to do with my heart.

I was getting it several times a day so my GP prescribed Colchicine which is mainly a Gout medication, but which works wonderfully well in almost eliminating the pain. I started taking it in the spring of 2021, and I'm still on it now as otherwise the pain returns much as ever.

It's still a concern for me. Hopefully it will disappear by itself in time - fingers crossed...
