Fractured rib

Saw doctor last week with pain in my left shoulder, given codeine and told I would need physio. I had valve replacement six weeks ago.

Unable to tolerate codeine so back to doctor to be sent for x-ray only to be told I have fractured rib which will 'probably' get better on its own.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Have appointment with cardiologist in three weeks so hopefully will get a better answer than 'probably'

Hi Nanny,

Ouch. I've had broken ribs a couple of times and there's not really anything they can do about it. You just have to give it time. I found it usually took about 6 weeks to heal but the pain should ease off after 2-3 weeks.

Try not to laugh too much!

Wait ‘till you sneeze if you think laughing hurts

Thank you. It hurts all the time. Can't believe nothing can be done. Should I just keep it still

Find your most comfortable position and stay there. You should take it easy for at least a week otherwise it'll take longer to heal. You need to let the initial fusing of the bones happen before you do too much.

A broken rib is ok so I’ve been told and I never notice wen my ribs are broken must have been resuscitated that many times.
