Af episode tonight

Just been in A&E with AF, in Nuneaton. Not had an episode for nearly 2 years. This time I was given a magnesium drip and a bisopropol tablet. It stopped after a few hours, but they were going to send me home, even if it hadn’t stopped, as my blood pressure was ok again. I’ve been to Leicester A&E with this twice and Plymouth A&E (I was on holiday)and have never been allowed to go home without it being resolved. I wasn’t very impressed with Nuneaton. Luckily it stopped just before my husband came for me. I was told , by Drs, to go to A&E if it doesn’t stop after an hour. I am too frightened to stay at home with it anyway. I also have had SVT since I was in my 20’s. It usually stops if I lie flat. I get so fed up of all this. You just don’t know when it’s going to start. I try to live a normal life, but it’s always in the back of your mind.

Hello sixtychic so sorry your not feeling too good our hearts do play tricks on us don’t they I can relate to you saying you have had arrhythmia problems since your twenties that’s me as well but I think we do understandably get fed up of it when it goes off road now and again makes you feel tired and drained I was told it was literally ‘my wiring’ 😂 I do hope they stay away for you so you can get on with life that’s all we want Really - take care 😊x

That’s true. I had a Dr from the heart unit ring me today. This was to do with my SVT episode, last month, not yesterday. I told him about that though. He was going on about a catheter ablation again. I am scared of having it done, but if it worked, it might be worth it.

Hi sixtychic I had an ablation believe it 39 years ago I was pregnant as well but I had a severe SVT but they really looked after me so it’s just worth thinking about think particularly with SVT it’s about shocking it back to normal but I understand you being nervous just take your time to think about it do your research are you on a beta blocker? I’ve been on one all these years just a very low dose but it keeps it in its place😂I tried to wean off few years back but it made me feel ill so not tried that again hope it settles for you I truly feel for you hope your back to normal very soon 🙏please keep us updated 😊xx

Thanks for your reply. Nice to hear yours was successful. I had the opportunity to have it done privately, when I was in my 40’s , 30years ago now, when my husband had health insurance with his job for both of us, but decided against it, as I thought it was too risky at that young age.Now he’s retired, we can’t afford medical insurance, which I miss, especially the way the the NHS is now. I’m trying a slightly higher dose of the Sotalol I’m prescribed, first. Hope you get on ok.

Hello sixtychic I’m also on sotolol!! take 40mg 1 daily it was the one arrhythmic drug that worked they tried different ones but sotalol which even back then was the oldest on the market but along with the ablation this worked but tbh I think the sotolol played the biggest part - I’m currently waiting for a result for a24hr ecg had it done 5 weeks ago the surgery are chasing it up for me I had been having ectopics but they have calmed down but I’m still glad I’ve had the ecg done also had an echo earlier in the year which was fine I also have high blood pressure but it’s been fine had a blip earlier in the year but touch wood that Seems to have stayed ok I feel like generally I’ve been out of sorts for 12 months so I’m like you hoping for things to settle don’t know how many times I’ve said that to myself😂😂I just wanted to hopefully help you feel not on your own fingers crossed it all settles soon 😊xx

Thanks. It helps to know you’re not on your own. Doesn’t matter how much sympathy you get from friend and family, unless you suffer from PAF or PSVT, you’ll never understand what it’s like, not knowing when you will get the next episode.I have got to slightly increase m6 Sotalol by half a tablet, so need to go on a tablet cutter hunt. !! It’s been snowing here in Leicestershire, but fortunately it’s already started to melt.

Hi sixtychic yeah think it helps knowing someone else has had similar symptoms like you say you don’t feel quite alone with it - they are very small tablets to try and cut aren’t they see if your pharmacist can help you? Have you been ok today? Hope it’s settled for you take care let me know how your doing - we have had the snow overnight don’t think it will be around for long it’s very open here in Rossendale 😂😊xx

Yes they are small tablets. I’m ok when my heart goes back to normal.Till the next time.!! It’s been snowing here in Leicestershire, but cleared up now. Shall go out in a bit, to look fora pill cutter. My husband reckons they’d be too busy to cut them for you.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma Sixtychick. I was shocked when you mentioned, you hadn't had an episode for nearly 2 years! I havnt had an episode for one year, so was hoping I was clear now, but obviously not. Quite a worry as I was informed latest blood tests showed very low platelets and I need to stop taking blood thinner! Hope my bloods don't pool in heart ( wonder what position best for sleeping?). Anyway, very best wishes to you.

I read that lying on your left hand side is not good for AF. Don’t know if it’s right or not, but I usuallysleep on my back or right side

I really don't know much AFib but I read an article recently where it stated that doing yoga can help to keep it under control and it appeared that it was scientifically proven. Just a thought.

I though everyone on here knew what AFib was. I read that yoga and also Tai Chi is good for your heart.

I know what it is as a friend has it. The article which mentions that yoga can help control symptoms is online sciencedaily.com The title is: yoga linked with improved symptoms in heart patients.
