Hi I've had svt since I was 15, now 38. It was only diagnosed on ecg this April after a 4 hour episode. My heart was stopped with adenosine and since then I have been very aware of my heart beat and have become quite anxious about it. I have had about 6 episodes since only lasting seconds. I was referred to cardiology and had a monitor on for 48hours and now awaiting an echo cardiogram. I unfortunately had another bad episode this week where my heart had to be stopped again. I've now been referred to another hospital for an ablation and have an emergency appointment next week. Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems and how you overcome the fear of it.

I was diagnosed with SVT in September aged 63 I too had a four hour episode, heart beat 210bpm which had to be stopped with adenosine. I have was kept in Hospital for 3 days having lots of tests. I have since had an echocardiogram the results of which are encouraging as its not showing any major issues with my heart. I have had a few minor sessions since but only briefly and managed them by deep abdominal breathing. I am managing my condition and my concerns about it by wearing a smart watch which monitors my heart rate, eating healthily, cutting out caffeine, cutting out alcohol, reducing salt intake, undertaking moderate exercise ie. Walking and Chair Pilates, taking my prescribed medication. I know it is worrying but the ablation should help, I have opted not to go for that right now as I an seeing how I go. I think you manage the fear of SVT by taking control of it, at least that is my approach. I wish you all the very best and hope you feel better and more positive soon Take care

I know it's not a death sentence! Thanks for your very unhelpful reply. I was asking people in similar situations how they dealt with the fear of it. Me and Tony Blair aren't that close so I can't ask him.

Hi Phiney, I'm very sorry If I offended you. I really didn't mean to. I was just trying to say that SVT is a treatable condition and there is reason for optimism. I'll delete the comment. Best wishes.

I self referred to NHS Talking Therapies and did a mindfulness course to help me deal with my anxiety around SVT. You can find lots of meditation videos on YouTube. I try to remember SVT is not life threatening but it’s a nuisance! I had an unsuccessful ablation in September because an area was too near the AV Node to ablate without risk of a pacemaker. I have just started Flecainide and my heart feels calmer and I’ve not had an episode since.
