AF? and chest pain

I’m under a cardiologist and electrophysiologist and have been diagnose so far with supra ventricular ectopics and query AF. I’ve not had an episode of AF since July but had one on 17 nov then two today. I’ve been to my nieces wedding today and tried to put a brave face on but had chest pain on and off since this morning but in the last hour it seems worse! I feel silly going to A n E as they make me feel like I’m wasting their time but I’ve never had AF along with chest pain. I also have a headache now too. Is this normal with AF? I’m getting a bit worried and scared.

Hi Nanaeli, I think you know that getting chest pain like this is a red flag for you.It may not be serious but on the other hand.... Please get yourself along to A&E and get checked out.Let us know how you get on.

I do agree with you but last time I visited A and E for chest pain they told me it was anxiety. So it puts me off going. I am very concerned though and I am getting upset. But the anxiety is about going to A n E not the cause of chest pain if that makes sense.

Yes, I've had the same experience but it is better to be safe.Unfortunately doctors don't respond too well to women presenting with cardiac symptoms but you have every right to be checked out. How's your bp at the moment? Do you have your own machine? I read that you have high bp as do I when not on meds. How is your heart rhythm? Is it regular or not? If anything is off please get it checked. I know that A&E is a stressful place to go but they have the right expertise and equipment to check you out.Have you got anyone who would go with you?

I’ve been off my bp meds for a couple of months now after discussing with my gp. It’s been fine without them. I do have my own machine and it transfers to my phone. On average without meds it is around 135/80-85 but this morning it was 127/90. I can’t sleep as I’m scared. My husband is here with me so he could take me. I would like my mind put at rest that it’s not a HA or the start of one but I am so reluctant to go and be treated like I’m wasting their time. They were really awful last time I went back in May. And you’re so right, they really don’t take women seriously, even though everywhere I turn including you, says go and get checked! Thank you for your reply. I’ll give it 5/10 minutes.

Also my heart rhythm is faster than my norm. I usually have quite a low heart rate 55-70 bpm but twice tonight it’s been over 100 and mostly averaging mid 90’s. This is unusual for me.

Hi I didn’t go to A and E. I’ve spoken to the secretary this morning and waiting to hear back. I still have chest pain although not as often. And no AF 🤞 it’s ridiculous that I feel so uncomfortable going to hospital as previous visits have been very intimidating. But hopefully the secretary will be able to rush the prescription for my medication through. Thank you for all your concern and I am fine, although there was definitely something different going on yesterday. I’ll let you know x

Hope your feeling a bit better nanaeli it is a worry when your wondering what to do for the best which is why I replied to your message I too have sat and worried should I get ‘this checked’ but because I’ve had a few tests done earlier in the year and nothing significant to report apart from high blood pressure (which is controlled) I don’t do anything I’m starting to put up with it as it was put to me ‘it’s probably muscular’ I’ve been having physio (privately) but can’t help worry about the twinges (I call them) in my chest so I wanted to just let you know I know exactly how you feel when faced with this dilemma which we probably both know worrying about what to do doesn’t help our situation so I hope things settles for you today take care 😊x
