Hello

I have been told that I now require AVR. I have had scans and an angiogram and been referred to a surgeon at Harefield.

Just wondered what peoples waiting times were as my anxiety is through the roof.

Thanks

Try not to panic, lots of us hear have had AVR surgery. I suggest you ring the hospital and ask about waiting times. You could try his secretary if you're wanting to know how long until he sees you . Although they probably won't know how soon you need treatment until your surgeon's sees you .

In Bristol I was told 8-12 weeks back in May. I asked to delay until after August 10 and had my surgery on 7 Oct. but it will vary around the country. The biggest problem as I understand it is lack of CICU nurses. I used the waiting time to read up about the surgery and prepare, both for hospital needs and adjusting everything at home as you will not be able to lift heavy weights or reach above your head. Good luck.

Thank you I need to try and not be too anxious

Hi Don68

It depends on so many things and what area you live in so it’s not a definable time.

From when I saw my consultant and went on his list I was told it was 16-18 weeks. I deteriorated during the waiting time and was in for surgery in Leeds, at 14 weeks.

The surgery was January 2021 so it was also mid pandemic which slowed everything down.

Now I’m nearly 10 months down the line and feeling very well. We will all tell you that the waiting is the worst. It’s constantly on your mind and feels like it will never happen. It will!

Don’t be too anxious about the wait. Concentrate on how you are going to cope and look after yourself post op. Ask any questions here and you will find the Hearties very helpful ❤️

Good luck

Hi Don68.I am in a similar boat. I was diagnosed with BAV about 6 years ago, and told id need surgery in my 50s probably. Last week I was told I need surgery before christmas ideally, due to a dilated ventricle.

The anxiety is tough, but I am trying to remember everything positive which far outweighs the minor negatives.

Good luck, and stay in touch if youd like. Always happy to chat
