Give Avanti a try, I found them very competitive, they are owned by Travelsure , but Avanti was cheaper than Travelsure, don’t ask me why. Regards Stephen

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I recommend StaySure and AllClear. Some others are cheaper but you may end up getting less cover than you need- always read the small print. Significant savings can be made by exuding the USA and the Caribbean, and cruising. If you are currently under investigation (e.g. awaiting an angiogram or MRI) you will probably be unable to get cover.

I recently managed to get insurance with Staysure for an extended trip to the US. Pricey but that’s to be expected.

It may not be helpful, but if you are a Nationwide customer, especially if you have Nationwide Flex Plus, I have found that they beat anyone else. I have had a heart attack (over a year ago) and my wife has high blood pressure (controlled).nationwide charged me around £400 for worldwide cover yearly. We are both well over 70

That's very interesting. I'm going to open a Nationwide account tomorrow. I have always loved travelling and had imagined that I would have to risk no insurance trips from here on in. But £400 for a year's cover, while not welcome, isn't outrageous. Is that £400 for joint cover or £400 each? One question, I had OHS around 15 months ago to repair an aneurysm and replace a bicuspid valve. Asides from the fact that I now face a lifetime on blood thinners, it's job done. Do I really have to declare this on insurance stuff, as it's not an ongoing issue? I had my tonsils out when I was three, nobody asks me about that.

I would check carefully with Nationwide that their insurance will cover you for a condition known about when you open an account with them.In my case I had been a Nationwide customer for many years before I had to declare a medical condition. After age 70 you have to pay an extra £65.

That's worth checking also i.e. will they accept you if you are over 70 when you open an account

Do make sure you declare everything. My husband takes calcium pills and Avanti wanted to know in detail why. I mean lots of people take calcium pills in old age especially. It wouldn’t be fun to be in a country where the hospitals may be packed . Good insurance provides air lifts and so on

Nationwide may be a problem as they do not offer travel insurance now (I think its only for people who have had a continual Flex Plus account. Mine had lapsed so I used the Post Office which charged around 80 pounds when I went for a two week holiday in France. They asked lots of health questions! (I had a stent fitted two years ago)

I got travel insurance with Avanti for myself with microvascular angina and my husband who is insulin dependent going on a Caribbean cruise for £632. That’s for both of us - 😊

Last week I got travel insurance from Staysure for £257 including disruption cover for myself and my wife for all of Europe. We are both in our sixties I have had a cardiac arrest and have severe heart pandemic my wife has arterial fibrillation, the conditions were all declared and they are all covered. I appreciate there may be cheaper companies out there but you only find out how good the cover is when you make a claim.Take care and enjoy your travels

Thank you everyone for your help. Got it from Allclear in the end. Multi trip worldwide for £602. Avanti and Staysure wouldn’t quote online so I just went with Allclear. A tip for anyone else - when I did the quote for a couple, annual multi trip it was £1096.73. I did my husbands with Allclear and mine with Insure and Go on a separate policy and got us both for £800 in total. Thanks again for your replies.

I got my best price from “highrisk travel insurance” - I am on the younger side and it was only European cover though.
