Travel insurance
Hi Sanpedro
It seems the travel insurance industry is split on this one. A number of companies are saying that if you have an annual policy, they will offer a pro-rata refund on the number of days left on the policy, while others have said no refund.
Sadly Staysure are in the camp that says no refund. I've also got an annual policy with them taken out last October, managed a week away in November, should be off on holiday next Sunday, but won't be going, another holiday later in year, also won't be going, so the week away in November was an expensive one!
I believe some annual policies are being extended by three months. Would that help you Pedro?
we cancelled our travel insurance yesterday with Insure and Escape.. after Tui cancelled our holiday..received £70 refund.. half of our £140 premium.. they actually told me a large amount of insurance companies don’t refund anything
I got the same no refund response, from my travel insurance provider Travel Insurance Saver. It appears that single trip policies were entitled to a refund but not annual policies. Seems very unfair to me.
AllClear recently contacted me to let me know they were automatically extending my annual policy by 3 months....perhaps they could be persuaded (shamed?) into doing something similar if you do intend to rebook your travel?
I'm with staysure and also trying to get a refund on an annual policy. I can't even to to talk to anyone.
I contacted our insurance company with the same query a few weeks back having taken out an annual policy in February with plans to go away a number of times. They said they can’t extend but have offered a refund pro rata for remaining months at a 5% rate. This equates to 45% of total. Ive responded saying that as the FCO advice is not to travel then I believe I have a product which is not fit for purpose and asked them to reconsider and freeze the policy, restarting when the FCO advice is lifted. I’m waiting on a reply and will post here.
By law they have to give you a refund . O Leary the owner of Ryanair has just been on and he hinted some flights could resume July August? If that's any good to you 🤔
Sorry misread the message not sure about travel insurance. Apologies
Hi we are in the same boat we took one out in feb because of our age it cost us £550 but when we rung up they couldn't get you off the phone quick enough just said you exceeded your 14 days so no refund. On Martin Money last night alot of the big firms are giving pro rata refunds and if you have no joy contact gov.uk so i will try there Sylvia
Thank you
Recently got a letter from our insurance company saying don't worry you are still covered for everything - except corona virus . I am still hoping to go to Spain in October but my walking holiday this summer as just gone up in a puff of smoke.
I had to take 3 individual policies for different trips with Insurance With. I managed one of them but I contacted them to find out about the other 2 policies. One they have agreed to change to next year as we accepted a new holiday but I have to pay more to do this. The other policy I don’t know about yet. The trip has been cancelled by the travel company so I will be asking for a refund on that.i am currently battling to get a refund from the travel company for the holiday who only want to issue a credit note! Under the Package Travel Regulations (2018) I should be entitled to a full refund within in 14 days but judging from the email exchanges so far, it will be an uphill struggle! Why is everything sent to try us??🤪🤪
I’m not at all surprised to read that Staysure turned down your request for a refund. My wife and I always used Staysure until we had to make a claim after having a pair of Bose headphones stolen (£250). We had the claim refused as we could not prove that the headphones had been within 15ft of us for the entirety of our holiday. How they expect you to keep all your valuables within 15ft at all times is beyond me. We will no longer consider using Staysure for future holiday insurance and urge others think hard before using them.
Why don’t you get together with a few other people who are in a similar situation and look at the possibility of taking court action to recover part of your insurance premiums. A lot of these insurance companies are very quick to take your money but when it comes to paying back seem to be a law to them selves
