A particularly nasty common cold

Does anyone know the answer to a vicious cold which drags on for weeks? My son has had this several times and now again for some 6 weeks, all the symptoms coughing, blocked nose etc.. It's not the Covid virus.

I wish I knew the answer. My husband and I have had the same, though not as long. I am now into week 3 and we just can’t seem to shake it. It is draining, so I really feel for your son. I hope he feels better soon.

My son has something similar. He's had the covid virus ages ago and is well over it, but for about 3 weeks has had a cold which now seems to be fading at last. Apparently, we are all at risk of infection from the viruses we didn't meet during the lockdowns. I hope your son feels better soon.

A friend had a very bad cold, got it from his kids as it was ripping through the school. For their job they are required to do two lateral flow tests and one PCR a week. Both LFTs came back negative but the PCR was positive. Apparently there is a new strain of COVID that is like a bad cold and also doesn't show on the LFTs. You can order a PCR to do at home through the NHS app so it might be worth checking this.

Just jumping on to say I’ve just finished with a cold lasted 2 weeks that’s not unusual for me they always hang around I think we are suffering them more and for longer as our immunity has dropped I think significantly yes it’s the right thing to do to protect ourselves of Covid the flip side we are going to have these coughs and colds I think worse than before when I very first started. My job in the NHS I was constantly ill with something until my immunity built up and remember one particular year everybody (patients) had the flu apart from the people I worked with including myself so Feel this might be how it is until we are fully back to normal I hope your son gets better soon he’s young he will get there take care x

There's a horrible cold virus going round that usually lasts over 3 weeks but 6 weeks is excessive. I would phone the GP

Have taken selenium supplements for the past 22 years ( after a bit of internet interrogation ) and since then have never had a bad cold or flu just 3 or 4 days of sniffles. It gives the immune system a "kick" Worth having a look on the internet. Stay safe people mask wearing is here for a few more years yet.
