Hi all.

I am getting very frustrated I lost 3 1/2 stone in 8 months but now I'm beginning to gain weight I'm on Bisoprolol, Furomeside, Atorvastatin, & Eliquis, but my diet is virtually the same I have LVSD. EF 45%.

I have read that some tablets cause weight gain Beta Blockers is one, anyone else had this problem, I know some of the weight I lost was water due to my condition and tablets I'm on, but i also lost fat aswell

I'm on bisoprolol and have put some weight on, but I've not been an angel in terms of diet. I'm doing gym every day now until I get back to my proper weight. It is hard work though

I have struggled with my weight all my life, Bisoporol just made the struggle worse ...I put a stone on walking past the chip shop. I have lost a couple of stone over a two year period but it isn't easy, just be satisfied with losing a little a week and some weeks none or even a little gain. I found trying to lose weight while taking Bisoporol is very much 2 steps forward 1 step back. Good luck.

Hi Tombstone, I’m the opposite, I’ve lost 5kg trying to put the weight back on but can’t. Similar meds, for me think it’s the water tablets plus the exercise I do daily. Are you active? Sorry can’t be anymore help.

Don't take this the wrong way, but when you say your diet is "virtually" the same, are you 100% sure about that?

I think we're all pretty much hard wired to manipulate and finagle the "rules" of any diet. We start out weighing everything, then with experience we think we can estimate the quantities by eye, and after that the estimate creeps up and up! Or we take a tiny snack, say one piece of dried fruit or a couple of crisps, and rationalise that it was too small a quantity to be worth recording...then we repeat that exercise multiple times each day! Or we have an allowance of say, one apple, but then we subconsciously hunt around the supermarket for the world's biggest apple! Or we convince ourselves we've got a sniffle, and we "need" some cough sweets...next thing you know we're munching through an entire bag of cough sweets every day and the sniffle has mysteriously hung around for three weeks!

I could go on and on, and this is just the deviousness that I've been guilty of myself, other people come up with far more creative ways of bending the rules!

I'd suggest going back to square one, look at the diet that lost weight for you last time, and repeat that to the absolute letter. One thing's for sure, losing 3 1/2 stone is a huge achievement that will make a massive difference to your health, so giving up on that victory would be a terrible shame.

Good luck!

Well done on your diet loss, that’s a huge achievement. I too lost weight but now on Bisoprolol and putting it on ! I am trying intermittent fasting and proceeding cautiously.

Hi, I'm on same drugs as you (Bisoprol, Furosemide, Atorvastatin, Eliquis) and I struggle continuously with my weight!

I didn't realise those drugs are responsible!😲

I have a healthy diet, cook from scratch, almost no meat, mainly veg diet, no sweets, no biscuits, no sugar whatsoever, no alcohol, no junk food , can't even stand the smell when walking past any fast food outlet..makes me retch.

I have quite sedentary lifestyle, used to walk everywhere, daily and fast pace, since getting a free bus pass, I use it of course.

Due to faulty aortic valve which deteriorated year by year, I walked slower - fatigue & breathlessness until my AVR last July.

I used to attend yoga class and went swimming, due to Covid I stopped obviously.

I guess I now know why I can't shift an ounce even when I hardly eat some days thanks to what you have written. Thanks ! I have realised that the drugs I take are contributing to my weight problem! But, what can I do about it? I need to loose at least 3 stone to be at the weight I was in my youth but how! My present weight 15stone is causing other health problems, mainly leg joint ones.

Btw, well done for losing that weight! Exactly that amount I need to get rid of!😩

I think it’s likely that the ‘slow-down’ effect of beta blockers stretches to more than just your cardiac condition, my metabolism seems to have slowed also, then again I’m ‘of an age’ where it might be considered normal, whatever that is!Provided, the situation isn’t excessive, I wouldn’t worry too much, the anxiety is more serious!!
