Sorry this may be an initial indication of PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease) which is narrowing of the arteries in the legs, and occasionally those in the arms. The chances of this are higher if you have ever smoked or if you suffer from diabetes. You need to have a Doppler test to check the ABPI (Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index). This is a relatively simple test that can be carried out by a competent GP or nurse. Let us know how you get on.
I suffer really bad also, to the point of not being able to walk the next day. I suffer with liver disease and it is a common effect in the disease. I do supplement every night with zma (zinc, magnesium, b6) and it helps. Also I have 2 liter bottle of water ready to be drunk as quickly as possible to reduce the severity. This does work ! Rehydration to the body as quickly as possible is the best medicine I've found. Hope this helps
I agree, I suffer with cramps in legs and feet, even my hands sometimes. I read an article about this and the main reason for cramps is dehydration . I make sure I now drink at least 2 litres of water a day, this has worked . I find room temperature water or tonic is the best for quicker relief. I get very few episodes now .
I also get cramps in my legs and hands. I now wear arthritis gloves either with 'shortened fingers' or 'no finger' gloves. Whilst I have these on the cramps have disappeared.
Leg cramps have reduced by about 80% or so since losing a lot of weight, 25%. That has worked for me and one other person I know. Also the intensity of the cramps has reduced when it does happen.
Magnesium oil spray is a great help, I find, preventative or curative! For leg / foot cramp that wakes me up at 3:00 a.m. and won't go away, a cold flannel or, if necessary, standing in a bowl of cold water works.
I suffer the same and took a magnesium supplement daily. With my HF meds it says not to take extra magnesium so have reverted to a glass of tonic water. Used to drink a lot of water for cramps and gout, but told I have to limit fluid to 1 and half litres - 2 litres per day . It is all a balancing act for me these days!
