So, just over a week ago, I woke up to find myself/ my body in the same situation it was in just after beign discharged from hospital post surgery and complications.
I am now reliant on a wheel chair to get me about again, and muscles feel totally in need of toning. I feel much more lethargic and become fatigued much easier. Concentration is difficult and even basic duties (getting up, washed dressed etc) or making a bowl of cereal are now activities that have to be pre-planned.
Other effects exist but not worth the mention as i feel i have given a flavour of what has happened. I was hoping to start studying at Uni in September, but this has made me ponder whether i am ready for such activity.
I mean, this is 10 months since surgery, and 7 months since discharge. I was hopeful that I was starting to reach a positive tipping in my recovery whereas instead i am pretty much bacll to Square 1!
Has any one else experienced a relapse of similar nature during their recovery?
Had a blood test on Friday which involves soem testing of some various vitamins etc, but this was to do with my tongue (pins and needles) and lower lip (numbness similar ot waht is experinced after dental treatment) - these were part of the post siurgery complications and were in need of a review. Who knows what they will reveal - i can only hope. Sadly, I've discovered the NHS works in a pigeon holed affair with treatment, althoguh i had complications post OHS which involves Stroke, Sepsis and HSV, it seems as though everyone points to Cardiology who do not specialise in Strokes, Sepsis or HSV, let alone the physio required to aid recovery.
My GP seems to have his/ her hands full trying to wrk out who to get to assess my situation.
Have a look at b12/folate (b9) deficiency on the NHS website or look up Pernicious Anaemia Society on Health Unlocked. Both have a comprehensive list of symptoms of deficiency. DO NOT random Google else you will get all sorts of misinformation!
So sorry to read your having problems, I haven’t got any words of wisdom for you. Just wanted to let you know that I am wishing you well with the hope that your medical team can get a handle on what is going on.
Thank you. Whilst i'm not enjoying the situation, i wouldn't be so fussed if i were able to understood its cause, you know, along the lines of this sort of thing can and does happen.
Hope all is well north of Watford - especially 'post lockdown'
It appears my Ferretine Levels have crashed - bllod tests gave a reading of 28, and NP advises this number should not be below 100. So a Ferri Infusion is being considered.
Vitamin B12 was also checked as well as Folate, and they appear to have come back OK. My T Sats (have I got that right?) were not measured, but NP feels that is not necessary to track given the low level of Ferretine.
Same day also resulted in a check up with my surgical hospital, and they echoed the views of the NP. Depleted Iron Stores is the given reason for my extreme lethargy and fatigue - so that's where we are at the moment.vTHank you all for your suggestions - clearly you know your stuff.
