Palpitations and insomnia

Hello, New here and looking for advice. I've been suffering from palpitations (heart rate up to 115 bpm at rest) for last 2 months, which can occur at random times including during the night which is causing some awful insomnia. I've been referred to a cardiologist and have had blood tests (all normal), ECG, echo and 6 day heart monitor (waiting for results).

GP thinks I have acute anxiety rather than physical problem with heart. Says i am worrying to much and over analysing.

I am already on ramipril 5mg for hypertension and propranolol 40mg for anxiety. GP has put me on melatonin to help sleep. I am having dizzy spells during the middle day and think that the cocktail of meds is lowering my BP. Used to be 125/85, now 117/72. Don't want to take any more propranalol because of this, but it seems to be the only thing I have access to that will reduce the palpitations.

you are very lucky to have been given melatonin.I went through a dreadful time last Nov. and Dec. and again in Feb.with thumping sudden palps not at night but pretty terrifying. called Ambulance more than once. Never had this before. Took Digoxin and it sent me into a deep depression tog. with insomnia. BUT it does suit some people.I was also said to have to have anxiety so a hosp. doc.treating me for something else gave me Mirtazapine.GP would only prescribe 7 sleep. tabs at a time for the insomnia. but Mirtazapine helped .Try not to worry esp. about your blood pressure. Insomnia is horrible .I do so feel for you and hope things improve for you soon.

BP of 117/72 is in the Ideal range so not sure why you are worried by it!

Not worried by it on its own. Its the fact that its dropped since I stopped drinking alcohol and increased exercise to reduce palps. This has lowered my BP and I think the original dosage of meds is now too high and its giving me dizzy spells / lightheadedness.

I’d be amazed if an ideal BP is causing symptoms, you should call your GP ASAP to discuss it.

That BP is not low and shouldn't have any effects.
