Booked in for a coronary bypass graft this Friday, 5th March. Looking forward to getting it done and feeling incredibly lucky to be able to have it at all.

Fingers crossed!

I am fine, kidneys were playing up before Christmas but heard last week they have stabilised. It’s a toss up between meditation for my heart and they give my kidneys a hit! Just didn’t want them tinkering with my drugs the heart is doing well.

So all good until the end of the year, have blood tests next month but that’s for blood count. They were a bit down so have been on folate and iron for a few months.

But as I said doing well, like you waiting for Spring to arrive though we live in Scotland so will probably have to wait a wee bit longer😂

Take good care of yourself.

Pauline

Oh it can all seem like a bit of a compromise with different meds. Good luck with the tests. Spring will be with you soon, I hope!

Warm wishes,

Neil

Good for you Billy!

The first few weeks following surgery can be a bit of a struggle, but after that you'll progressively discover just how wonderful life is once you're free from the symptoms of angina.

Do let us know how you get on.

Good morning Billy-Bedstead. Good luck for Friday. 11 weeks since my double bypass ( couldn't find sufficient veins or arteries for triple bypass). I'm well. It does take time. Do th breathing exercises and try to keep moving every our and sleep when you get tired as nights will be difficult to get comfortable. Take your painkillers and have a small rolled -up towel with you at all times. But it very tight when you do the breathing exercises or if you sneeze. Also getting up from bed or chair. Take it easy and you'll get there. Looking forward to hearing about about your recovery. Joan

I am due for a bypass op in May/June, and feeling a little anxious. Question - whay the rolled-up towel?

Bishop1 profile image
Bishop1 in reply toSomersettony

Hug it tight against your breast bone when you do your breathing exercises. It takes the pressure off. Hospital have me one in HDU. You will be fine . Stay positive. 2years today I got my new right knee. God bless you x

Also helps when you cough or sneeze!

Hahah, I had a CABG x 5 March 2019. My rolled up towel came everywhere with me. I got really attached to that towel. It came out for trips in the car and everything. I wanted to take it on holidays but my wife said it was coming between us. It went very flat after I told it it couldn’t come. 🤣 😂

Seriously though, it was a help. I put a couple of strips of insulation tape around it to keep it rolled up and ready for use.

It’s to help support your breast/chest bone. They’ll teach you what to do.

Best of luck for May/June. Not that you need luck, these people walk on water as far as I’m concerned. 👍

I remember my fiancé’s towel very well - it came everywhere with us for quite a while (sometimes I even got to hold onto it when we went out for walks!)

....On a serious note it really seemed to help him with the discomfort when coughing and I’m sure mentally helped as a “comfort” too.

Thank you Joan! I've sorted out a wide, soft cushion as a chest supporter for my breathing and coughing. I promise I'll do all my exercises!

Hi, Neil

My rolled up blanket went everywhere with me too, my family called it Mums teddy! It’s a baby blanket very soft, it still lives rolled up on my bed a wee reminder of 4 years ago, I used to sleep with my arms wrapped around it made me feel more secure.

I had my CABGx2 eight weeks ago this Friday. You'll be up and about next week, slowly slowly, and every day will become a little easier! Sending you all good wishes and vibes 😊

Tremendous luck with the operation Billy. Mine was 8 weeks ago today and I’m still on the recovery road, though I can say my overwhelming memory is the amazing professionalism, dedication and kindness of the doctors, nurses, consultants, surgeons, pharmacists, radiographers, hospital porters etc who will all be there to get you through this is - in my experience, they are all incredible.

How are you feeling @ 8 weeks. What exercises do you do. How much walking. Soreness in back and chest begins to get easier now. Can turn over from right side to sleep. Good luckx

I am getting there thanks Bishop - I feel improving week to week though slowly. I am on Level 2 of the cardiac rehab exercises from the BHF (under ‘virtual’ supervision of my hospital cardiac rehab team) and do daily walks between 3-5km (I did one of 6km the other day by mistake - miscalculation!) and was fine but tired! Sleeping well, just my chest bothers me - the odd clicking and some hypersensitivity.

Hope all good with you!

Hi

Best wishes for Friday. I hope everything goes well for you. You will be in excellent hands.

I am just coming up to 5 weeks post op OHS for AVR and quite honestly I feel so well. It was a struggle in the first three weeks but after that little steps and keep up with medication. Don’t do too much. Let the healing take place before you start doing anything.

I still have to be careful when getting up from sitting a while or from bed. Make sure you use your legs to get up and don’t push up with your arms. Practice now!

Yes, I have several teddies too. Very attached to them.

My Best Buy when I came home was a wedge for the bed. You cannot lie flat for a few weeks. It’s just a foam wedge with a zip quilted cover. Put it behind your pillows in bed. Perfect!

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

❤️Maisie❤️

Hi Billy

I'll add my congrats to you, it will be here and done before you know it. Make sure whoever is going to bring you home knows not to drive in all the potholes or drains on the way home. You have heard from others who have undergone this recently but there are also us long timers - I'm 22 years and counting - so it is a game changer for you.

22 years and you’re still helping people going through what you’ve been through. Respect to you my friend. 👍
