Very good! Ask any questions on here, lots of us have plenty of experience to help you out. It really isnt as scary as you might think (keep away from google!) I wonder if this means elective surgery is starting again.............

Thanks Smarticus, elective surgery is starting back where I live. Just hope Covid doesn’t impact on it...

And yes I will definitely keep away from google!

Hi, so pleased for you. It’s perfectly natural to be scared, that would be the case no matter who you were.

I know it’s not easy but try to put a positive spin on it. Think how much better you will feel afterwards and how you can get your life back on track.

Sending love and best wishes for the op. Xx

Hi,

Glad to hear you have a date for your surgery. My husband had his surgery mid June, after a very long wait (made worse by winter cancellations this year and then lockdown). He, like you, was scared when he actually got this date because it felt more definite (had 4 other cancellations) as they told him he didn’t have to ring to check for a bed and had to have 2 COVID tests and isolate before going in. However, everything went well, they even discovered a problem with the Tricuspid valve too and repaired that whilst in there, and he is now 12 weeks post surgery, feeling so much better than pre operation, walking without getting out of breath and generally looking so much healthier.

Ask questions on here, I’m sure people will help if they can.

Just one thing my husband found invaluable was a triangular wedge (we got his from Amazon, if think it was about £17). It helped him to sit up comfortably in the daytime and at night you can turn it so the slope is less steep to prop you up while sleeping. The hardest thing for him was the lack of sleep because of having to sleep on his back, not his normal position. The wedge did help.

Best wishes.

You’re welcome.

Glad you’ve got your pillow 😁

My husband also worried about not being allowed visitors, no need he had a great laugh with two other gentlemen in the post op Ward and they are all keeping in touch; in fact sometimes I couldn’t get a word in when I video called 🤣

Best wishes.

I had my Mitral Valve replacement 6 months ago and feel so much better. You do feel scared but I say just go with the flow you will be very well looked after every step of the way. Small steps when you come out of hospital, take your time.

Best wishes

Thanks Tombob, so glad you are feeling better & all went well. You are right with going with the flow. Everything that could be done has been done even provisionally packed the bag! Now it’s just keeping fit & well & waiting to go in...,,

Dont be-but I know its easier said than done. These folk know what they are doing you just have to remember to take it very easy after wards. My surgeon did my 6 month review the other week and was very positive about how it all went-I had my mitral valve repaired, aortic valve replaced and a hole patched up in my left ventricle that had been there since childhood. It has been quite a while to get back to normal and I im not there yet I think this the thing that most of us find difficult Ive been told that it may take another 6 months or so before I feel like normal .
