I'm taking Isosorbide mononitrate and Untill the pill is working I'm fine, but once it wears off after few hours I start getting twinges in my chest and some days pain in front of chest and some times at the back. So yesterday I tried to check how much is my heart depending on Isosorbide Mononitrate, so I decided to delay my pills till evening and go and take a walk at slow pace e to see how well can I do without them, I felt my chest feeling heavy and like weight on it, this made me realise something still isn't going right inside even after two stents after HA. Is anyone else feel they heart is not very much functioning without Isosorbide mononitrate? Also after stress test few months back I was offerd angiogram again but my Anxiety and fear didn't allow me to go for it 3rd time

go and get your angiogram. ive had 2 sessions had 1 stent first time and 4 the 2nd time. good luck. do you take anything for Acid Reflux eg Lanzoprosol
I had to have my dosage increased and my other drugs tweaked to prevent the angina. I now take isosobord nitrate in the morning and midday and amlodopine at night and have been free of angina for 18 months. You need to talk to your cardiologist and talk through your symptoms. It is common for us all to get dosages and drugs tweaked since we are all different.
You really do need another angiogram. Angina (which is what you have) is all about lack of blood flow in a coronary artery. an Angiogram is the best way to diagnose this. If they see a blockage then they can insert another stent or clear it via balloon. Have they suggested an MRI scan? I believe that this can help diagnose angina better then say a stress echo?
No they haven't suggested MRI scan. Only Angiogram, stress test on a bike I had which indicated heart is having some abnormalities. Thanks for your response.
Nothing abnormal there. I'd had one without really even noticing anything yet I was utterly terrified the second time. I'm the same with MRI scans. They can work with it and help you. You aren't the first.
Hi I take 10mg of Isosorbide Mononitrate in morning and also mid day. How much are you taking? The meds I take for heart condition are : Amlodipine Besilate, Apixaban, Bisoprolol, Isosorbide Mononitrate, Simvastatin. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.
Hi.......I was on isosorbide mononitrate for relief of microvascular angina symptoms. One tablet a day in the morning. Worked ok during the day but got symptoms overnight so decided to stop them. I came off the tablets too quickly and the angina symptoms were 10 times worse than before I started on them!!! I think if you want to stop taking isosorbide mononitrate then you need to be weaned off over a couple of weeks???
Having had 3 stents in 2019 for badly blocked arteries and a further diagnosis of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (obstructed LV) last year, I'm on the usual cocktail of heart meds. Including Isotard of which you refer to. I take 1 60mg tablet every 12 hours - 1 in the morning and 1 at night and along with the Bisoprolol, Rythmodan, Aspirin, Omeprozole, Clopidogrel and Simvastatin my symptoms are mainly held in check, apart from the occasional odd twinge.Although the dosage of the Bisoprolol had to be increased after the first six months of taking it.
Something that helped me was the purchase of an NHS approved Oxy-Meter, so I could check both my heart rate (beats per minute) and my oxygen levels. It was from using this information, and the return of my symptoms that prompted my Cardiologist to increase the Bisoprolol by way of a telephone consultation.
I hope you manage to get your issue resolved. I'm not a fan of Angiograms either, far from it. I endured 3 of them - the first 2 (in my wrists) had to be aborted as I was in so much pain. The 3rd one was done under general anesthesia and revealed the blocked arteries, for which I had the stents.
My most recent test was a cardiac perfusion MRI, this diagnosed my HC. But also from this, my Cardiologist was able to tell me that my stents were working just fine.
Maybe you could discuss the possibility of having a cardiac MRI with your Cardiologist prior to accepting a further Angiogram, at least in the first instance, it's worth a try.
Wishing you good luck and stay safe. Let the forum know how you get on.
Thank you for you respond.See our hospital don't really offer MRI, as they go for Angiogram it's easier for them if their is an issue then they can deal with it there and then. Doing MRI means if there is an issue then to fix that issue they will have to do a Angiogram to fix it, this means double work and double cost to NHS so they try killing two birds with one stone 😉
Hi. I just sent you a reply to your post, but think I may of accidentally send it to one of the members who had already replied to you, my mistake. But I guess it will still show up when you read your replies.
