Hit my head and on blood thinners

I stupidly pulled the boot door down onto the top front of my head earlier it really hurt and I immediately got a walnut sized lump.. I’ve checked and there is no bruising... I don’t have any symptoms of concussion but am on blood thinners duel platelet therapy and don’t know if that means I need to get a ct scan of my head? Can anyone shed any light on this or has any of you hit your heads before and been ok?

Personally in the circumstances you have described I would not consider doing anything to either cause more hospital congestion or risk catching Covid, as you have said you have no signs of concussion, nausea etc? I would think you would have to to be going some to slam it down with enough force to cause damage to your brain.

Hi Buffy . I slipped in my bathroom just before Xmas and hit my forehead really hard in the mirror. I fell on to the floor and waited till the shock subsided. On getting up I notice a lump and told my daughter. She immediately rang 111 and told them that I'd had a heart attack september 2020 and was on aspirin and blood thinners. The told me to go to a and e immediately as I'd need a scan to rule out a blood clot. Luckily every thing was fine and I was checked over thoroughly and the scan was fine.

Next day woke up to a large bruise on my forehead that got bigger and bigger over the weekend in fact ended up with two very black eyes. I still have very slight bruising under one eye but expect that will go in due course.

I personally think it's best to get a scan and a thorough check over. Just to be on the safe side. Hope your ok . Please let us know how you get on. Best wishes 💐

This is from the BHF pages on Novel Anticoagulants:

If you are taking anticoagulant medicine (for example, warfarin or dabigatran) and you suffer a head injury, such as falling and hitting your head, or experience a blow to the head, seek medical help without delay to rule out internal bleeding which may not be immediately obvious.

I would ring 111 - they will probably will want you to go for a CT scan to be safe.

She’s not on anticoagulants. She’s on anti platelet therapy.

The purpose of both types of medication is to stop clots forming with potentially dangerous consequences. So therefore OP should get checked out!

I was pointing out the link you posted wasn’t clinically appropriate for dual antiplatelet therapy. The risk is actually less. However any fall by any patient should be treated seriously.

CT head scans are recommended by NICE for falls when on warfarin but not for antiplatelets. But obviously individual A&E doctors will make a decision accordingly

Go seek assistance, there’s no harm really.

Scalp woulds bleed copiously in my experience! I've noticed that I bleed more even on low-dose aspirin with even minor cutsso that may help you decide what to do......

As an aside I have a dentists appointment next week where I'm expecting my gum to be cut open to reveal a root. I'm thinking of stopping the aspirin for a couple of days to reduce the bleeding. Does this make sense?
