Bathroom visits!

Does anyone share my "problem"? I take 3 meds to control my BP and find that I have to make frequent toilet visits during the morning, roughly an hour or so after my first cup of coffee and also after taking my meds I need to pee at least three times an hour for about 4 hours. Then things settle down and my toilet visits are back to once an hour or less. During the night I may get up once and occasionally twice. I have tried changing my breakfast drink but still experience the same problem with multiple toilet visits.

I do have an enlarged prostate which is possibly partly why I have this problem. I am waiting to be called for a PAE procedure which would probably have taken place had we not had the Covid problem. I take 50mg Losartan, 50mg Epleronone and 10mg Lercanidipine Hydrochloride.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes 50mg Losartan makes me pee regularly for a couple of hours after I take it in the morning, and a friend on 100mg says it does exactly the same for him.

Thanks Wodney1966. I checked the side effects relating to each tablet and I didn`t notice anything relative to Losartan. But that`s interesting and I will try switching the times I take it.

I take no water tablets, I’m 42 and my prostrate is fine. The cardio guys wanted to increase my Losartan, I was on 100mg for a spell taken in the evening but the lack of sleep from being up four times a night was debilitating! Pharmacist explained, from memory, it was increased kidney function due to increase blood flow.

Thanks for your interesting comments. I am definitely going to take a close look at Losartan and its effects.

Thanks Outforawalk! Much appreciated. I think I`ve responded to your message to Wodney1966. Strange how these meds mess with your body. I`d like to think I could stop taking them.

Dear mr sensible Your description is exactly what i endure. But i don't take any of the tablets that you mention.

I have purchased some bottles etc from age concern, to enable me to travel a little. Including medical appointments.

Demoralizing problem, but it is easing a little.

Perhaps we can get some treatment when we get the nhs back.

Seasons greetings

Colin

Hi and thanks for your comments. You appear to indicate it is pretty much down to my prostate. Do you or have you tried any of the prostate treatment drugs?

have a great Christmas!

I am no medic. So i really dont know whether your prostate is the problem. Maybe combination of some of your medications. Maybe its our brains that are bemused by all the surgical activity and reading the wrong signs. In my case, perhaps its just old age. I havent tried the medications. Would be interested if anyone else has tried them.Enjoy your day. We have a stunning sun rise which is lifting spirit.

One of men's big problems. I have an enlarged prostate also I get up 5+ times in the night and almost every 35/45 mins throughout the day settling down at night. I don't think it's my BP tablets though. I also take Tamsulosin for the prostate I've been told that I could try another that shrinks the prostate but I'm not keen on the side affects. You could try looking at your caffeine intake that's supposed to help. Sorry I'm not more helpful 😔 good luck

Agree with this posting. I don't think it's my BP control drugs (clopidogrel and bisoprolol) that increase my urination. Was a problem before my heart bypass and I have been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate that has been assessed as non-cancerous. The combo drug "Duodart" (tamsulosin+dutasteride) has cut down my night trips to average of 1, previously 3+, but not my daytime frequency or some daytime leakage. Worse still the Duodart is expensive and gives reverse ejaculation and enhances lack of oomph. I will try 5mg cialis when I've had my next PSA visit to the urologist. 69yo btw.

I can't see anything listed on the drugs you are on that would cause increased frequency. When I had an enlarged prostate I had similar problems caused by not emptying bladder fully therefore after an hour or even before, you get the urge to go again. Caffeine from tea or coffee will stimulate the urge to urinate more. Has your urologist suggested any prostate meds while you wait for PAE. I was on tamsulosin which acts as a muscle relaxant encouraging you to empty bladder more fully. Also after you have passed urine wait a minute or so and try and pass more to make sure bladder has emptied, you may not be able to but Urololgy Nurse advised me to try. I had holep laser treatment in August and the improvement is amazing. Good luck with your PAE.

Hi Nathan, Thanks for commenting on my post. I was offered HOLEP but am waiting for PAE procedure. Are you pleased with HOLEP or is it too soon to judge? I`m told recovery is pretty quick.

HelloI was pleased with HOLEP but my recovery was longer than expected. I had read on various Private Clinic info that within a couple of days all was normal. I experienced bleeding for about 5 weeks and discomfort maybe exacerbated by having a catheter in for a week. I was discharged same day instead of staying overnight due to Covid issues at hospital and had to wait a week before they could fit in catheter removal. Urinary flow after 7 days and now 5 months on is excellent and only having to get up once or twice a night with further improvement still possible. If you want to ask more by all means private message me. Did you know there is a prostate forum on Health Unlocked. Check the groups most guys on it have prostate cancer issues but not all and some very knowledgable people on it.

I have the same problem. I go at least four to five times during the night and after my first coffee I can go 15 minutes after and then about every 15 mins for quite a while. I wondered what it was.

Thanks for your comments. I am going to try reducing my coffee intake. I have moved to mostly decaff but still have the regular toilet trips.

For me, the bathroom is the most important place in the house. Because I like to come from home and take a hot bath, but recently I had a problem because the whole bath was cracked and I realized that I needed restoration. A friend recommended this website azreglazing.com/ to me and said that there are the best specialists here.
