Following a chest infection early Nov and having a negative Covid test and a chest X ray it was discovered my heart was enlarged I was referred to my GP for blood tests and heart trace which was all normal even my HBA1c for diabetes. I have now been referred to the cardiac outpatients for heart scan and Cardiologist consultation. I had my heart attack nearly 11 years ago and have only had one angina attack 5 years ago and apart from advancing years and the results of breathing flour dust for 50 years as a baker I have felt reasonably healthy. I wonder if if I had not had the chest xray whether this would have been discovered, anyway my hospital appointment is for 23rd December so I will let you know the outcome.

Enlarged Heart.
Hi Geoff,Welcome to the enlarged heart club. Hope you get on ok on 23rd December. They found i had an asd and type 2 bicusped valve, that was missed at birth. This all came about after passing out at work. But I had been complaining about my breathing for a good few years. To get the chest xray, I gad to be a little rude, not like me, but to keep being told your ok, was getting to me. And as it was I wasn't ok. Let us know how you get on.
Regards Dee.
Did u cough a lot when u were having your chest infection?
Thank you
Because I was a baker for 50 years and my Father and Grandfather were bakers before me, I have been breathing in flour dust from a toddler so any cough I had I attributed to my lifestyle. I volunteer at our local tidal flour mill and have to leave the mill when milling is in progress as I have become hypersensitive to flour dust. All these symptoms could have been heart related but I assumed it was flour dust, I have now been prescribed two different inhalers which have helped the breathlessness and made the cough less pronounced so I am still not sure either way
Thank you for sharing.I cannot imagine how that flour dust must have impacted your health.
I was wondering about your coughing as my mom's heart became enlarged during her last flu bout when she coughed for a few months.
Judging from what u shared, coughing sounds like a regular symptom for u even if when u don't have a chest infection?
Hi I have had similar experience had chest xray following ED attendance & diagnosed with costachondritis but also noted enlarged heart - waiting for blood test results but now anxious about what this could mean
