Hi all, Im wondering if anyone is on Isosorbide Mononitrate, as my consultant has put me on Isosorbide Mononitrate and I'm bit reluctant to try new pills due to side affects. To be honest scared of long term damage. Can someone let me know anything regarding these tablets. Thanks in advance.

Isosorbide Mononitrate
Hello and welcome to the forum!
I was on Isosorbide Mononitrate for well over a year before my quadruple bypass. Absolutely no issues with it. It's an effective anti-anginal and significantly reduced the need for GTN spray for me.
Hi, I am on the same medication and have been for a couple of years now. The .only problem I had to start with was headaches, some quite bad and I had the dose changed to 2 a day instead of 1 which helped a lot and not much need for GTN spray
Hi
I was recently prescribed Isosorbide Mononitrate by the Cardiac Nurse during a recent appointment, having read the leaflet and the list of side effects i decided not to take the medicine, i am quite happy to use my GTN spray if and when required.
I’ve been on it for 2 years - 30mg twice a day. Stopped my angina attacks immediately and I have had no side effects.
I took them- absolutely fine, no problems at all. If they've been prescribed then you need them.
i’m on 120mg daily.. had a couple of headaches at first but as far as i know.. no problems taking it
I’ve been on them for nearly a year now I had my disease doubled a few months ago, no side effects and did make quite a difference on how much I used the GTN spray.
No regrets taking these at all, hope this helps.
Let us know what you decide to do ?
Hi Page. Me too. I've been on this for the last few years, along with all manner of other medications. No issues at all with this one. Take care and stay safe 🌲
Yes ditto , no problems for me so far and feel better for being on them . All drugs have side effects to a certain degree , it’s the benefits from taking them that you have to weigh up ... On the other hand, I’m glad I’m off beta blockers ,they knocked me for six and made me dreadfully fatigued . Lots of info on here about all heart meds !
Hi, new here. Dad prescribed 10 mg twice a day, he’s been on it for 10 days now. He is getting really bad headaches, it is debilitating for him. I have read that the headache eases over time but it is so hard seeing him suffer so much from this prescribed drug. Any advice?
Hi Zinge
Welcome to the forum.
The ' nitrate head' is very common.
The headache does wear off.
When I first started taking Isosorbide mononitrate I felt awful too.
What helped me was drinking plenty of water. Getting up slowly from my seat and avoiding alcohol.
Perhaps have a chat with your local pharmacist about which pain relief is suitable for your dad?
If things don't improve your Dad should speak to his GP to see if there is an alternative medication he could try.
I have been on isosorbide mononitrate for over 8 years. Like Manhattan I take 120mgs a day without any issues now I have got used to the medication.
Thanks for your email, really appreciated. He takes soluble paracetamol for the pain but it does not go away. Just waiting for the day the side effect goes away
I am on 120mg daily, at first I suffered bad headaches for about a week, but they stopped and i have been ok since
Lovelies I want to ask is it me or any one experience after taking isosorbide mononitrate after while I start feeling real cold and I mean real cold, even sitting in front of the fire place, I still feel cold?
