Water softeners (block salt) and hypertension.

Hope this isn’t a silly question! Should I be drinking water that’s been through a water softener that uses block salt? I’ve had high blood pressure for 10+ years yet have always had a healthy lifestyle & regularly exercising so never been overweight or smoked. Supplements like garlic and Lycopene don’t seem to make a difference either. It’s well controlled with meds but I don’t want to take these for ever. Feel as tho I’ve exhausted all other avenues.

We had one fitted a couple of months ago (so much less cleaning of shower screen etc!).The guy who fitted it said it didn't put that much salt into the water, especially if you compare it with eating cheese, bacon, ham etc.

However, we do drink lots of tea and whenever I'm making tea I always use water from the untreated tap. We use that one for drinking water as well. We minimise salt in cooking too.

Both my husband and I are on meds for hypertension, so it was a concern.

I think there's a genetic link for hypertension - there's no obvious reason for mine and my mum had it as well - she was tiny and walked everywhere.
